That seems high. Will check on that.

My point was not that this wasn't a important hire but that the over reaction to it seemed to suggest that it wasn't important to CSP if you get my drifting drift?

Surprised no one has said this yet, but just hit me, Anthony Spencer is a free agent and he flourished in Ryan's system...

Sorry the Saints didn't consult you before making the decision.

It's as if y'all think Payton and Loomis sought out the worst candidate for the job and then offered him a position. I'm sure their research on the candidates far exceeds the quick search we do on google and Wikipedia.

But just like the majority of us praised the Spags hire, and turned out horribly wrong; I'll wait and see what Ryan can bring IF he gets hired.

I'm not too thrilled about this if it happens.

That is extremely rich coming from you. Seriously, you are about the last person on this board who should make a post like this. I'm generally a positive person, but you bitch about every little thing the saints do.

Did I say that? No, I looked up what he has done as a defensive coordinator, and it doesn't look good. Our track record with hiring defensive coordinators hasn't been stellar.

Way to not argue against any of the numbers I posted though. 1 good defense in the last 10 years.

I won't shoot myself for it, but definitely not my first choice. I trust Payton, and I'm sure he has been thorough with his search for a DC; the guy means business.

I'm disappointed about the hire.
Frankly.

But whatever.

I never really understood the hype with Rob Ryan. Rex is the one that deserved it..Rob is overrated.

I'd rather take a shot on a college coach like Grantham (who didn't really have a lot of success as an NFL D-Coordinator either) or a position coach.

I'd even put his average lower considering GW was only good that first season. After that he was just as bad as the other two. And he screwed us over more than any of the other DCs.

I'll trust Payton's opinion over your "this was a bad hire" statement of fact.

Nothing we can do but hope for the best. Most of us were excited about Spags, but that turned out terrible. Anything would be an improvement. And, with our offense, all we need is a decent defense. A decent defense would've given us 2-4 more wins last season easily.

I'm not thrilled about hiring yet another DC who was just fired.

but Ryan has never coached on a team who has an offense that can be methodical as ours.

Frankly, I don't care about the total yardage given up by his defenses. It is almost a lost cause in today's NFL IMO. If we can be in the middle of the pack in scoring defense we will be in great shape.

Sound reasoning

obviously a statement of fact

Do you think that Ryan has been a good defensive coordinator throughout his career?

Pretty much sums up my thoughts, though I'm okay with his personality on the sideline. Seems like the kind of guy a player would want to run through walls for (like Gregg Williams but without the psychosis)

How is Ryan going to be the DC when he interviews Friday and UGA Todd Grantham interviews Thursday. Am I missing something because this doesn't sound like a done to me.

Our defense in 2010 was actually pretty damn good. Less yards and points, but also less opportunistic compared to 2011. I believe we were 4th in total defense for the 2010 season.

No Ryan-led defense has ever qualified for the postseason.

I think Ryan has coached with three terrible franchises. I know the Dallas D suffered with injuries big time. I think Jerry Jones has his hands in everything in Big D, making the whole thing a circus.

I know he's wildly respected throughout the league. He knows the 3-4. Sometimes all you need is a change of scenery and a locker room where the head coach is the boss, not the owner.

I'd be curious to see what he can do and in no way is this a failure or bad hire without seeing how he performs with the team. So yes, I think he'll be a good D coordinator for us
