After the 1st 2 games, he had a 147.9 passer rating against him which was 3rd worse in the NFL behind Joe Haden and Munnerlyn. We sat him the next week.

Since then:

Passer Rating - 52.6 (5th best in NFL); 0 TDs and 2 Ints
Cover Snaps/Reception - 12.8 (10th best in NFL)
Yards/Cover Snap - 0.95 (13th best in NFL)

In 2011, his last healthy man to man season:
Passer Rating - 59.3 (8th); 1 TD/4 Ints

He's been surprisingly good down the stretch.

I still think we need to get someone else in the offseason because our depth is horrendous.

Nope, too many other cornerbacks out there that are better.

hes always shown flashes of being a legit #2. i think coaching and schemes have hindered some of our players, i.e. vaccaro. if this defense is actually healthy, i think we can finally put players in the right positions for them to succeed. i believe they give rob ryan another year to get it right.

Well they aren't playing better than him.

And would probably cost more $$. We need 3 good corners either way

do corners never work with WR coaches? i feel like that would be a good routine for corners to go through once a week. just learning the ball skills and strengthening their catching ability.

I think so. Should be really cheap to re-sign as well. His inconsistency would lead me to sign a vet that could come in and not be awful as a #2, though. I would prefer our draft picks to focus on the interior OL and interior LB, with that annual "how did we find the money to do that" signing going towards a talented but underperforming WR like Shorts, Crabtree, or even a risky guy like Gordon.

He's inconsistent. Everyone was awful in 2012. As mentioned, he was good in 2011 and has been good this year after the first 3 games (when he was coming off of a serious injury). IIRC, Payton brought him in after his awful start and said "I know you can do this, we're not going to cut you. Get your shite together," and it appears to have worked.

Nice to see.
But I think he was a 3rd CB vs bears. I believe he only got around 17 snaps if I remember right.

Greers' opinion of P Rob:

"I like Patrick’s ability to play in the slot. He’s extremely athletic, we all know that. But I think that over the last six games, the way that he’s contested every throw has been incredible. In six games I’ve only seen one ball being openly caught by a receiver that Patrick Robinson has guarded."

I'd go with his opinion and what he sees over anyone else on this board.

after watching his game at Pitt, you would probably have very decent odds. ive read that a lot of the most successful corners at one point played WR to some degree. it just seems like a no brainer to have them work on that side of the ball at least once a week.

Yea, the stats aren't showing that. He was terrible in 2012 and through 2 games this year

P Rob has a ton of talent, but the coaching he's received has been suspect at best. People also need to remember he started the season coming back from his ACL tear that occurred last season. All the training camp and pre-season reps in the world don't match a real game, and he played tentatively.

Since then, he's shifted into a nickel/slot DB position and has excelled. I think if they get rid of McGriff and bring in a legit Secondary coach, P Rob and Lewis would be an adequate starting duo, but keep him on as a nickel back and bring in a legit #2 and I think the Saints are in good shape.

A lot of the Saints issues aren't the result of a lack of talent, but poor coaching hires once others have left.

Look at our DB play in since Allen left as DB coach, OL play since Kromer left, and our LBer play still sucks and Vitt is the constant there. Hell, WR play since Curtis Johnson left.

so the coaching gets no credit for the good keenan does but all the blame when jabari greer and Prob go down for season enders... now prob is playing well but its still the coaching that he wasn't good to begin with. seems like you are giving coaching a bad rep for all the bad and ignoring the positives.

I was pretty damn impressed with it last year. We lost Greer, Robinson, and Vaccaro and still kept playing well.

OL play since Kromer left,

The decline kind of started in 2012 though. We replaced the best guard in the game and lost our LT. Now Evans is just getting old.

I would take him back in a second though

We've had good LB play in the past with Vilma and Fujita. We haven't invested at that position.

Once again, turnover and age. Are you not happy with the way Stills has developed? Cooks was progressing very rapidly. Colston is older.

The safety play has been atrocious for most of the season as has most of the corner play including from White.

Some coaches do well with veterans, while others do well developing youngsters. Furthermore, it's not like Lewis was some mediocre CB they turned into a legit cornerback. He was legit in Pittsburgh before coming to the Saints.

Like with Ingalls and the OL. The OT play has been improved some, but the interior OL has gone to crap. It isn't a coincidence that pro-bowl veterans are magically sucking.
