well if they franchise him next year it costs them $29 million for it so everyone agrees its likely not any possibility of them doing that so he will walk for free if they don't work out a trade for him this year so im not understanding why they don't take 49ers offer of #2 draft pick?

personally I think this franchise tag shite is just a way to screw players over.
it should just be based on the contract, when the contract runs out you are a FA
right now players can be "franchised" which in reality is just a way to prevent players who honored their contract from being the FA they deserve to be, just so teams can force them to stay against their will.
so the players are bound by the contract but the teams can stop players from leaving after the contract has expired, even though that only happens because the team refused to work out a new contract
