I like CD as much as anyone. More than a lot like him actually. I think he's got that "it" you need to be a good QB. That being said, 9 wins is a lot to ask without Drew Brees.

they have done it without him before with QB's who had less talent than CD does. I agree it would be hard for him with Payton gone, but still my gut tells me he flourishes in a system he knows and is comfortable in. If he were a second year guy or a newbie I would say no maybe 5 wins tops.

Who? Billy Joe Tolliver/Hobert? Don't say Brunell either. Brunell was a previous pro bowler and savy vet.

Daniel is an unknown. Plain and Simple.

He's only in his third year.

Like I said, I like CD. But Brees is one of the best QBs on the planet. You don't just recover from loosing a guy like that when your team is built around your offense. I don't think we'd do as bad as Indy but we'd strugle a little.

Ok, I respectfully disagree. Good points though.

Daniels is definitely better than Brunell was as a Saint. Brunell was so old and useless that we may as we'd have been better off having Morstead at QB.

Daniels seems to have the tools to be a poor man's Matt Flynn IMO. Nobody expected Flynn to blow up like he did in New England in 2010 and then v's the Lions last season. Daniels could definitely have some decent outings with the weapons he has around him and the system that Payton/Carmichael have assembled.

I have witnessed this in a dream. Drew signed with Minnesota right before the season opener (which was against the dirty birds for some reason). Chase Daniel started and the sky didn't fall. The announcers (it was the NBC Sunday Night crew, fyi) even remarked on the fact that Brees, Vilma, Peyton, and Williams were no longer with the team. Chase didn't play like a god but he was more than capable. The defense managed to get several turnovers and sacked Ryan like his 0-line was made of paper dolls. Saints won even without Brees, but the team became a defensive/ ball control team.

Drew Brees will NOT sit out. He simply won't. He has been franchised 1 time in his career but even if he sat out this year - the Saints could simply franchise him again next year (making it his 3rd franchise tag).

He won't sit out this many years for a few million dollars. Drew Brees will start the first snap for the Saints. Book it.

ETA: He has been franchised once in 2005. So he still can be franchised up to 2 more times without being able to walk away.

While I agree that he won't get the franchise tag, if he sits out this season and doesn't sign the tender, he would be a non-exclusive franchise tagged player, which means he could field long term offers, but the Saints would have the right to match.

Is that how it goes under the new CBA still? I thought they made it where he could simply get franchised again (thus hosing a players career if you franchise someone 3 years in a row).

You could very well be right. If that's the case - Drew holds more cards than I thought he did.

I really think the saints go 7-9, 8-8 at best even with Brees. Without him they win 2-3 games. It's been a rough offseason and things will be very reminiscient of 2007 and 2008. Saints will struggle to gain consistency with all the issues. Hope I'm wrong....
