Veteran kicker Nick Novak will try out for the Saints tomorrow, according to a source. @JasonLaCanfora reported it first.

Former Dolphins kicker Caleb Sturgis is also trying out for Saints today, a source confirmed. @MikeTriplett had it first.

Yep. The kid going into his first game thinking the FO has no confidence in him.

Nick Novak -- cut by #Chargers today -- is 74-of-83 on field goals the past 3 seasons. 89.2%.

Maybe they might think a proven vet can be better.

No doubt, it's just odd timing.

edit: besides Brees
also Sproles.
and John Carney who kicked for them for a long time then came here and lasted a handful of years too

Does yalls FO have PTSD with kickers after the last few years?

Notice Super Bowl winning teams have two solidified positions QB and K

Seems like the main complaint with Novak was he couldn't get touchbacks on kickoffs.

you don't understand us bringing in a veteran K with close to a 90% make percentage? Well then you must be fricking dumb

Both of the young kickers we had struggled with consistency all TC and preseason. Nick is a 90% FG kicker. If you really like Hocker or Hopkins bring them back next year to win the job as oppose to filling it by default.
Have no problem bringing Novak in. Hope we sign him, give him a jersey and a roster spot. San Diego trash New Orleans treasure.

No, he's not. And he's almost 35 years old.
I was really hopeful that Payton had moved beyond going with the kicker closest to Social Security age. This sucks.

Stupid. 34 isn't ancient in the kicker world.

90 in 2012 and 91.9 in 2013. You are right though he didn't do as well last year.

35 isn't that old for a kicker.
