My take on pick 32

1) Top 10 linemen in all college football last season. Only 1 in 5 linemen rated 80 in pass and run blocking. Only allowed pressure on the QB 12 times.
2) there is always a need for elite OL talent. Especially when your #1 asset, maybe our only asset at QB....he is nearly 40 and getting closer everyday.
3) We can get just at good on D with pick 42 than at 32.

He's going to be a starter at RT for 10+ seasons

It's simple. Any de they could have taken there is probably still available at 43. So why not take the top rated overall lineman with that pick? Sure, you could have maybe grabbed mcdowell there and still had robinson, but you would have been reaching.
Never reach. Never, ever reach.
Ever.

How can you guarantee this?

What part of my line of thinking do you have a problem with?

It's fine.
It's 2017. College players in big programs have surgeries all the time. Etling just had back surgery this week.

You mean other than the BS that the 42 pick will yield a player equivalent to the 32?
Look I like Lattimore. Best player on board at the time.
A backup RT at 32 it's ok. He's solid. The late round took DE off table.
But it's just false that 42 will get same player as 32.

Not the same, but the line of thinking is the downgrade is small enough to justify going in another direction.
Also it is possible that a DL doesn't come off the board in those 10 picks.

Haha apologies, perhaps I am one of those.

Glad they took a lineman instead of Butler!

If he really was rated top half of the first on their board then I love the pick.
This offensive line is going to be the 2nd best in the NFL, maybe even the best since the Cowboys have no RT. We're going to protect our best asset, AND his eventual successor is going to step into a fricking Ferrari just like Dak Prescott just did.
