Was he only a cap casualty last year or was he also a liability? Is he that better then Lalito?

How in the world did we have the 3rd best O line last year per PFF?

If Jahri is healthy, he is an above average guard I still think. Its if he can get and stay healthy that is the question.

They asked him to take a pay cut for the 2nd straight year and he declined. He was always a cap casualty but somewhere along the way sunshine pumpers, needing to believe that this team has never cut a player they shouldn't have, said that he was done and everyone started parroting them

After listening to Mike D on Mascona yesterday, here is what I took away:

Saints asked Jahri to take a 3rd paycut....He refused, it got ugly and they finally cut him.

Seattle signed him, but Mike said he does not fit their scheme or Tom Cables style at all.

Said he battled through nagging injuries last year and that was an issue.

Brees went directly to the Brass and said do what you have to do and get Jahri back.....The next day Jahri was signed and Brees was extended.

Said that Jahri should be healthy and in shape right now, and is way better than any Guard we have on the roster.

I think Jahri is a below average NFL guard but a above average guard on the Saints roster.

Yea. That's what happened

He was a cap casualty because he wasn't wortg near his $3.1 million in salary. He had trouble in free agency because he's old, often injured, and unfortunately not very good anymore. He was cut by Seattle, who has a very weak offensive line, because he's not very good anymore too. All the signs point to him not being washed up, but you continue to suck your own dick on it for some reason.

All signs, including his play the last 2 years here, point to him being a below average, maybe even backup quality guard. That still may be an improvement for us. At some point the injury excuse goes out the window.

If he's still a good player, we made a great decision cutting him. We saved a lot of money.

So either way you look silly, yet continue to pump yourself up over it. Whatever you need to do to boost that confidence

I can believe most of that. I think Jahri is better than Lelito especially if he's in a more healthy form. The fact we paid him a million this year speaks volumes IMO of an upgrade the Saints FO thinks he is over Lelito. I'm catching a bad case of cautious optimism.

Can you elaborate on this? I'm not an expert on O Line schemes, so I'm wondering what would it have been about Jahri that didn't fit what Seattle was doing? I mean, Unger certainly seems to have fit both schemes.

I don't doubt the cap issue and possibly the scheme thing. Still I think to myself- he was on the street a good while before anyone gave him a look, O-line is the weakest unit in Seattle and he couldn't make the grade as a backup even? Says more about how bad things are at guard to me.

I'm no expert either, but to summarize, Cable runs a Zone Blocking scheme, but prefers very athletic players all along the line, which is why Jahri didn't fit.

Jahri maybe in his prime would have fit, but at his age and size, his athleticism has declined and he may be able to keep your QB clean and open up running lanes, but he doesn't fit a scheme that wants to push the pocket...If that makes sense!

plus its so hard blocking for russell wilson when you around that guy all the time. it takes a lot of restraint on them lineman not to let the defensive front defender through and knock the snot out of wilson.

Harder still not to just charge your own sideline and plow this D-bag in the ground

This sums up the situation perfectly. He's not garbage but he is below average. For us, he's an upgrade.

Seattle bear reporters were calling Evans washed up after he was cut, but our o-line is abysmal right now so best of luck to him.

My understanding about what happened to him in Seattle is:
- Jahri only plays one position
-Had someone good in front of him on the depth chart
- Weren't gonna keep him as a backup because he only plays one position

If true, maybe Evans does have something left. This might be lip service but Carroll spoke as if Jahri can still play.
