Kiper and McShay tried to create "Grade A" drafts for filling teams needs instead of a traditional mock.

quote:

New Orleans Saints

Round 1 (12): William Jackson III, CB, Houston
Round 2 (47): Deion Jones, LB, LSU
Round 3 (78): Adolphus Washington, DT, Ohio State

MK-Analysis: Sense a theme here? At every pick slot I thought this: "Which player on the board has a bunch of upside and could potentially help my defense right away?" That's it. Yeah, I'd like another receiver, and yeah, I'd like to add a guard. But the Saints didn't make the playoffs last year not just because they couldn't stop good offenses, but because they made bad offenses look good. Jackson is major talent at cornerback, and steps into the mix right away. Jones is a little undersized based on traditional standards at linebacker, but he can fly and helps at a need spot at outside linebacker. Washington adds to the rotation depth on the defensive line. Offense? We have Drew Brees for that.

This mentality is REALLY going to hurt NO soon. Might be this year with that current Oline.

I want Alexander from Clemson if we're taking any CB that early. I wouldn't be entirely mad at that draft. But we'd still be without a pass rusher to pair with Jordan. We have Kikaha but I don't see him as an every down DE.

Hell, I wouldn't mind us taking a passrusher at DE, DT, and OLB with our first three picks.

What an awful Mock lol. We aren't drafting a LB that early and that would be a serious reach for a cb.

our current OL already has 2 elite members on it.
along with an addition top 15 pick.

good guards can be found in rounds 3-5...so as long as OG is addressed at some point during those rounds our line will be better this year than last and even last year it was still better than ATL's.

Agreed. I just was criticizing Kiper's garbage. Taking all D is risky with his mentality of "Drew will solve all O woes".

I don't think ATL or NO's Oline has any elite members on it to be honest. None. Some good to decent ones but elite, cmon...

Nothing against William Jackson. I'm sure he's going to be a good player, but I would imagine at 12 there would be better players to choose from that are at positions of greater need.

Deion Jones in the 2nd is just stupid.

Armstead and Unger are IMO both top 6 at their positions.

I think that is elite.

and I think I can speak for everyone here...we are all glad Mcshay and Kiper do not run this team.

Armstead is a top 5-ish LT, Top 10 at worst, and I've heard a few national media people begin to pick up on that. Unger is in that air as well, when healthy.

Our Gs are hot garbage, but we do have last year's first round pick in waiting.

Terron Armstead is a top 3 rated T. After only Joe Thomas and Tyron Smith.

Peat is arguably the NFL's top 5ish 6th man o-lineman of the year player

They aren't my top selections, but I wouldn't hate this draft all. Fans get too caught up in the names that they like/know, and anything else is a failure. Example- This board, re:Jarvis Jones, 2013. I've seen more than one person refer to Jackson as the top cover CB in this draft.

Yeah I'm not necessarily hating on this draft, and I've had suspicions that we could go CB early for awhile.

Eh, we'll see.

Except for the fact he's widely projected to go in the 2nd by people smarter than you

LSU players get drafted high, just not by the Saints
