Josh Norman gave some big praise to Brees and Payton

Listened to an interview with him on ESPN Radio on the way to work. He sounded like he was high to be honest. Just all over the place and kind of incoherent to start the interview.
Mike and Mike asked him about other teams pursuing him and he said quite a few did but took the time to really praise Payton and Brees for reaching out to him and trying to make "something happen out of nothing." Sounds like our deal was going to be based on the hypothetical restructure, unlike Washington who had a contract on the table ready for him to sign.
He went on to praise Payton as a brilliant coach and coordinator, and said he would have loved to have played for someone like that. It was nice to hear because he didn't have to say anything.
Guess it sucks to be the runner-up, but the Saints also have been burned badly by big money contracts to free agents, and with him being an older corner I am definitely okay we did not sign him. However, a Brees extension probably would end all this Paxton Lynch talk...

Last thing we want to do. Better to let everyone believe he's our guy.

Except what if we are the one's who are being fooled and he IS our guy?

Drew's extension is probably already done and the news of it will come out after the draft.

Hope were looking to trade back if the situation is right

It would be nice to trade back and acquire another 2nd round pick. We could address DT, DE, & another position in the 1st 2 rounds. Rounds 3, 4, 5, & 7 used for OG, WR, OLB, CB, & S.

How far back do we have to go for that team's 2nd( assuming it's the same spot as in the first)? Seems like it'd have to be a pretty significant drop for a late 2nd round pick. I'm not sure what the calculator says, 20ish?

Basically. We would get more than a 2nd if we traded with like the #24 pick.

It's certainly possible. I am not writing it off. If this is the case then I trust Payton knows he will be a great player

It's not though, the Saints have always gottena deal done last minute. It's how they do things

I like Lynch's game, but when I saw him on ESPN last week, his facial hair immediately screamed "douche." I was pleasantly surprised by him when he started talking. Seemed likable enough. But then he came off somewhat flakey and kinda air-headed. And then I read that he made, like a 15 on his Wonderlic? Not that you have to make a 40, but a 15 is pretty bad for a QB.

And then?
That's it.
Just don't think he's the kind of guy Payton would fall in love with. I would be absolutely shocked if we took him.

An old metric to predict NFL success at QB is:
Wonderlic score > 25
Number of starts in college > 26
Completion rate in college > 60%

The rule predicted success for Peyton Manning, Philip Rivers, Eli Manning, Drew Brees, Tony Romo, Matt Schaub and Matt Ryan.

Meanwhile it predicted failure for Ryan Leaf, Joey Harrington, Akili Smith, Tim Couch, David Carr, Vince Young and JaMarcus Russell.
It has been more right that wrong, only predicting incorrect success for Ponder, Bradford (still starting) & Weeden and failure for Cam Newton.

Besides Cam, those aren't terrible misses. Bradford, like you said, is still starting and his main problem has been injuries. Ponder just wasn't very good but no measure is perfect at predicting this stuff. Weeden was old starting out and was drafted by the Browns... So he never really had a shot.

I made a topic on this subject.. I think we should pass on Paxton.

Thats a pretty good measure to go by.
The number of starts would be the one I would be more flexible with than the other two.

My grandfather is an agent and has talked to a few of Paxton's teammates that came out this year like their TE Alan Cross and he represents a few Memphis players from past seasons and none of them like Lynch. What may be even more of an indicator is that their parent's don't care for him as well. If your a college QB of that caliber at a school of that level and your guys wouldn't run through a wall for you thats a red flag to me. I think Lynch slides to Denver at 30 IMO.

Payton should ask Lynch how many of his Memphis teammates went to his birthday party.
