Cute but it is an unfortunate reality as well. Our D proved to be a bit formidable when we were healthy and yet were still down many players early on. The loss of 4 corners with no pass rush and little LB help is just disastrous yet we're still competing.

What's the difference between an excuse and an explanation in your eyes?

Do you think injuries have impacted our defensive performance? Can't wait to hear this.

You're going to try and sell me on the idea that injuries are responsible for fielding bottom 5 defenses in 4 of 5 seasons?

Sorry, I'm not buying that

Where did I try to sell that?

Please quote it.

I guess this is that part where you change an argument so that yours can stand up.

I'll help you out. I've seen a tremendous improvement in run defense this year outside of 1 game where, guess what, we were depleted with injuries. Crazy the impact it made in that game. No way having Breaux, Kikaha, Williams, etc healthy could help our pass defense

I don't need to change anything because a bottom 5 defense in 4 of 5 seasons is all the argument I need

I don't care what the excuse is this time, coaches/players are paid to do their job and do it well

Why does this defense need everything to go their way to put on a solid performance?

Crazy how against Atlanta with Davison and Vaccaro (along with the others listed above) out we gave up 7 ypc, yet have only given up 3.6 in the rest of games.

No way losing those 2 players made an impact

Ah, so your argument is something I never claimed.

So you're including players in this when the majority weren't even on the team 5 years ago . Brilliant logic

Yea, and that job is harder to do when your best players are sidelined. It really isn't hard to grasp, and we saw the glaring difference it can make in 2 games this season

Where did I claim this?

Ah, that's right, I didn't.

There's a reasonable amount of injuries that should be expected in a season. We surpassed that in training camp

The defense has been eviscerated in every single game they've played this year with maybe the slightest of exceptions in Kansas City

Injuries are an excuse that I'm not buying because history shows the issue is much larger and there is zero reason to think it gets any better when two guys come back

Don't drink the kool-aid

They were playing fine until Breaux went down against Raiders and then loss of PJ hurt just as much. Ignore it all you fricking want. We'll be a very competent D when we get Ellerbe, Breaux, Rankins back and that's not including loss of Kikaha and PJ Williams.

And you're ignoring history

Ellerbe's dead to me and Rankins/Breaux are not going to stop this defense from being one of the worst for the 4th time in 5 years but it looks like they'll take advantage of already challenged offensive units to pad those numbers

But, I'll let you cling to those

Yea, that's not true.

I'll ask again what's the difference between an explanation and an excuse.

We've rebuilt this defense from the bottom, but the young talent isn't on the field...

We've literally seen the difference in play this year with and without certain players.

And it's not just a difference 2 players make (once again changing the argument to fit your narrative). It's the difference those 2 players make when your already down several players and your depth has been completely depleted

So the defense didn't play well against the Giants?

The Giants game had some of the worst defensive play calling I've ever seen

Combine some of the most obvious blitzes ever designed and DBs conceding 10 yards on every snap and you end up with poor defensive performances

The fumbles weren't forced because of expert technique, guys just hit the Giants and the ball popped out but that's not sustainable or coachable and they haven't done anything like that since

So giving up zero touchdowns and forcing three turnovers is a bad defensive performance

Unbelievable

You're right, they were absolutely destroyed that game.

And I'll keep doing it as long people keep talking about injuries as if that's some excuse for DBs not turning their heads around to look for the ball
