Hopefully Brandincookem will call and jeff can feel smarter. Just for a moment then he's going to get drilled.

This was a clickbait move from the beginning
Pathetic

I'm sure Jeff started furiously masturbating when the article was mentioned during the game

ESPN has mastered the art of turning one of their own's hot take into an all day discussion piece but the TP is milking ever drop out of this like experts. They currently have a poll, chat, and video pod all about Duncan's column.

This was absolutely to get people talking and going to their website.
While this sort of behavior is normal for writers and websites trying to get noticed, to see a media company almost two centuries old resort to these tactics is quite sad.
The legal issues are not good and certainly there seems to be a leadership void in these franchises at the moment. Gayle is in absolutely no positions about the franchise, so it's assumed she will become an absentee owner and a tremendous amount of power will be in the hands of the team(s) executives. The extent of Mrs. Benson's business experience and skills will be met after she redesigns the team uniforms.
But... what's the alternative? Do we really think there is a buyer who would purchase two franchises AND keep them in the city long term? Remember, the NFL doesn't want syndicates, they like a single owner (or at least family ownership). The NBA is headed in that direction as well. Who, tell me, can afford to buy the teams and has enough of a tie to the city to keep them here?
I think Tom knew this and tried to groom Rita, it just didn't work out, and there aren't any other family options.

All of that is fine if the response wasn't a direct attack against the business.
Benson took a shot at the TP. To continue down this road of alienating Benson seems like suicide. A significant portion of the TP customer base subscribes to support a local company that has been around forever.
To pit itself against the owner of the Saints/Pelicans at a time when the company is slowly dying and is facing real competition for the first time ever is simply a poor, poor decision.
