And this kid is pretty damn good. Great touch on passes, has top level awareness and he can sling it when necessary.
I really, really dig this pick.

He was drafted to be a back up. Hopefully he s good in the film room.

He's supposedly a really smart QB.

He definitely makes good decisions. His line was a bit weak at Fresno, but the kid had a great pocket presence.

Purdy was drafted to be a backup. Tom Brady was, too. What’s your point?

Most importantly he is a decision maker who doesn’t turn the ball over.

I would not be surprised at all that if Carr were to get injured that Haener would see the field before clownshoes Jameis. He is a square peg into a square hole.

The two biggest knocks on him is deep passing and his height. But as already mentioned, he has a high football IQ and he has great pocket awareness. He is definitely going to be interesting to watch in camp.

If Haener were 6’2”, 210 lbs he’d have been the #1 pick.

MJD was saying the same thing on NFLN yesterday after the draft. He likes him better than Jameis as well

He spends this year on the practice squad. They are not gonna keep 4 QB's on the active roster, and Winston is too expensive to cut; that's why he is still on the roster.

For now. Lots of backups become stars.

Be honest, by “film” you mean highlights on YouTube.

I promise you that Jake Haener won't sniff the practice squad and have an inkling that either/and Winston/Luton will be taking the back seat to Haener come September.

He is a plug-in guy that will play within the system and allow his skill guys to do work.

Want to hear something kind of depressing lol

2002 JT O'Sullivan 6th
2005 Adrian McPherson 5th
2010 Sean Canfield 7th
2015 Garrett Grayson 3rd
2020 Tommy Stevens 7th
2021 Ian Book 4th

Congrats Haener some people might wait till you pick a jersey number or till you make the team officially but I'm gonna go ahead and give you the crown as best QB Saints have drafted in 23 years

Honestly if a QB isn't taken in the first 40 picks odds are low he ever becomes a starter (legit multi year starter, not emergency spot starter).

Hell odds are low even for the guys drafted in the top 40 (but not nearly as low as outside).

So what that list really shows is we've taken a few later round flyers on guys we thought had potential, rather than active attempts at finding a legit starter.

Not sure if this kid will wind up an exception, or just another name on the list, but odds say the latter. I always remain optimistic until proven otherwise though.

You understand how the practice squad works right? That any team can sign a player off of it? We didn't put Ian Book on the practice squad, and he was a piece of shite. Pardon my French.

Unless he thinks Luton is a lock to make the team, odds are we keep 3 QBs and the guy we traded up to get is one.

Luton to the PS.
