5yrs $60mil looks beyond the Saints budget to me. And it does sound like a good fit for him in NE.

How about Justin Gilbert Okla St for 4yrs at $7mil? That's what #25 CB Xavier Rhodes from last year cost.

Grimes could come in for a decent number, and at the 2, he would be a pretty damn good pick up. Add in the fact that our pass rush should improve next season (YES INDEED), and we could have the makings of a NASTY defense, ala Seattle.

That Greer injury was the most significant. When we lost him teams had a much easier time throwing. It was immediately evident. Butler had potential to be a Lewis type pickup.

methinks too spendy

Miami got him on a one year show-me deal after coming off surgery. He did indeed show himself to be among the better NFL CBs. I think he shoots higher than Keenan Lewis' deal at 5yrs $26mil. That looks too spendy until we would see some major cap cuts.

A #27 1st rder would be more like #25 Xavier Rhodes last year- 4yrs $7mil. We would be adding to our fastly accumulating talent, youth, & value on defense with that.

There have been a fair share of "misses" on the defense in drafts since '06. Usama, Sedrick Ellis, Jenkins, PRob, Martez, Johnny Patrick. It doesn't take but a handful of solid picks to turn that around tho. That is happening right before our eyes... Vaccaro, John Jenkins, Hicks, White, Jordan. That's not mentioning solid FAs like Keenan Lewis still only 27. Oh, Victor Butler like a lagniappe this year is only 26.

more points on injuries to D-

Seven players who either were slated to start in the preseason or started at least half of the team's games missed a combined 83 games this year. Defensive end Kenyon Coleman (torn pectoral muscle) and outside linebackers Will Smith (torn ACL) and Victor Butler (torn ACL) all missed 18 games, playoffs included.

Meanwhile, linebacker Jonathan Vilma (knee) missed 17 games, cornerback Jabari Greer (torn ACL) sat out eight, safety Kenny Vaccaro (broken fibula) missed three and linebacker Parys Haralson (torn pectoral muscle) was out for the final game.
