In the Superbowl Era each decade had one dominate franchise.

Although the first Superbowl wasn't until 1967, GreenBay was clearly the franchise in the 60's.

BTW, I do mean Franchise A great front office, one of the best coaching staffs and Star players on the roster top to bottom.

The 70's
Steelers

80's
49ers

90's
Cowboys

2000's
Patriots * NE made there run without throwing money around to every free agent available each year. Something that we might see more of by the Saints.

Here we are in the next decade 2010. Although we will never experience this past year again ( as far as the overwhelming joy it brought to all of us) This year may prove to be a season that will start defining the New Orleans Saints franchise in the same light as the 5 previous franchises of the decade.

In order for this franchise to make the next big step, this has to be a goal IMHO. They may not succeed, but they have everything in place to accomplish this milestone in the Superbowl Era.

Thoughts?

Didn't the Bowns go to 10 straight conference championships in the 50's? And then pwn the Eagles their first NFL game?

The Browns did dominate back in the old days. And yes they did beat the two-time defending champion Philadelphia Eagles 35 - 10. They had 487 yards total offense.

As long as Brees is behind Center, all things are possible.

As long as Brees stays healthy and there is talent around him it can be done. Saints could be next dominate team

As long as we have Brees, we are in a good position.

That being said, you do have teams like the NYG '08, Tampa Bay '03, Ravens '01, Rams '00 and Green Bay '97 who won once and not again. There is much more parody than there use to be now with free agency and revenue sharing.
