I'm reading a lot about how the saints ran a lot of illegal pick plays yesterday. (Earl Thomas bitched about it in an interview) I know they happen quite often though, I remember last seasons Giants vs Saints shootout they did a lot of pick plays against us in the end zone. Anyone else have some insight on this?

Everyone in the league runs these plays

Seattle, New England, and New Orleans run them the most effectively

Seattle has no room to bitch, they have made a living off of these kinds of plays.

there were 126 plays from scrimmage run in the game and only 13 penalties called.

eleven of them went against Seattle.

there is no reason to complain here.

I heard that pick plays were illegal, but rub plays weren't.

I can't say I know the difference.

Oh screw Seattle and their Defensive players that are whining. They are the worst when it comes to holding and PI and they always get away with it.

From sitting in the terrace, Seattle gets away with a ridiculous amount of illegal contact

Their past Superbowl defenses were built on the whole secondary holding , grabbing, pi, etc. The announcer basically said it yesterday. The whole group did it every play, so the officials just quit calling it, because like holding it there would be a call every play. Browner is prime example. They mindset of the league must have changed because they are calling it more.

Yea I get it and it is a brilliant strategy

But if it isn't consistently called, which it isn't, throw the rule out

It's run a lot more at college level.
NFL teams run them too and it's becoming more frequent.
Let's hope the NFL doesn't start flagging that too unless it's just flagrant.

I don't necessarily blame the refs, they are just following league mandate and with the pass int and holding on defense they can only see so much.

Pick plays are legal within one yard of the line of scrimmage. On the touchdown, contact was initiated within one yard but continued down field another couple of yards. I think that one was a bit of a gray area, I wouldn't have been outraged had they called it, but it wasn't egregious. The one on the 3rd down play was a yard and a half down the field. By letter of the law I guess it should have been called, but it would have been incredibly ticky tack. Both plays were close enough that it's really not something anyone should be complaining about. They definitely weren't bad calls, just 50/50 calls that went our way for a change.

Seahawks whining about officiating is like HRC complaining that the election was rigged against her after she loses. Blah blah blah. I remember the refs bailing those bastards out in the playoffs against us. frick em.

Earl Thomas lit Snead up on that play because he was mad and didnt get a flag.

Besides, DBs jam receivers all day. Heaven forbid they get roughed up a little.

So the defense that illegally grabs a receiver every passing play is bitching about pick plays?
