Because you start realizing what is important in life.
There was a famous author who wrote that he spent half his life listening to Giants baseball games on the radio with his Dad and in hindsight...what a waste of time...total waste of time...he wished he had talked to him more and done things together.
Get out of the TV room...get out and do things.

I'm 54 when LSU and the Saints won championships a few years back I told everyone then that I was going out on top. There was no way things could get any better. It's all Lagniappe for me at this point. Purely entertainment and at times a distraction to the real things in life . Rock on !!!

After a championship: Irritated & frustrated with 3+ losses a season.
A losing season after championship: Indifferent, numb, might as well tank the rest of the games for a better draft choice.

Man, that's me... I used to get stressed about it but as I've aged it doesn't bother me a bit anymore... Of course after watching the saints all these years they've made me bullet proof to anything else that could happen that hasn't already....

yeah, there is an optimal level of care i try to maintain--care enough to make the games suspenseful and get upset when the team screws up and elated when they dominate, but not so much as to put me in a bad mood.

The NFL pass happy rules turned me off as well.

THIS, the state of current NFL makes it so much easier to just say FK it.
Games are so painful to watch in the last 2 or 3 yrs because the rules and flags. 30-40% of drives are directly impacted by the refs now, and then the following drive is impacted by a makeup call.
I can't hardly watch neutral games anymore because the sport has truly deteriorated in the last 5 yrs.

i watch and care for sports more now than ever... my kids' sports team, that is.
NFL and college are interesting and fun, but subject to my liberal TIVO practices.

Runningbacks are nearly expendable now & the immense/dominating role of the slobber.-knocking linebackers of old is dying. Ray Lewis the last of the dominate linebackers?
Hell, Basketball once allowed more contact than is allowed on NFL receivers.

As I've gotten older and particularly this year because my little boy is a year and a half and really starting to grow up so much, I no longer feel the need to plan around football games. Especially when were not playing well. Call it fair weather fan but I just feel like there are so many moments I can't get back. Life is short and I already work too much. I'll watch the games if I can but if my boy wants to go for a walk or needs some attention from daddy or my wife needs some quality time, they get first dibs on me.

When you have so little free time as an adult, its tough to commit 4 hours to a boring game that is a blow out.

I let my wife and daughter go to the game. I stayed home with my son. Good decision.

Used to watch all the games (LSU and Saints) with my dad. He passed this summer and I don't anywhere near as mad when we lose. I still get upset, but without my dad, these games have become more entertainment.
My young son now watches it and he is trying to learn the rules. That's what it's about, spending time with the kids and keeping the tradition going, not being pissed about a game you have absolutely no control over.
