Im going to keep this short but sweet.
Mickey Loomis is in a no win situation here if he signs Drew to a 24 million a year deal he is crippling the team for years.
Loomis would be looked at like a moron if Drew gets hurt and he has 24 million in one hurt player but at the same time if drew is health what can we put around him because 1/5th of our cap is tied up in one player.
Best case for Mickey is Drew agrees to 20 million a year and we franchise Carl Nicks and work on a long term deal with him. Worst case Drew gets franchised Nicks and Colston both gone and Drew refuses to report to camp. Loomis being fired if the last one happens.
Also saints still need to sign J. Dunbar and fill holes left by Colston, Porter, and the holes in front 7.

Didn't realize these 2 signed with a different team already. Good to know!

Nope don't feel bad for him at all. Alot of this could have been avoided the past couple years which would have put the team in a better position at this point. Drew's contract should have been redone 2 yrs ago, Will Smith should have never received the type of contract he did and the same could be said about a few other players. Not saying these players did not deserve a new contract, but they were paid too much. What sucks it has come to this point where some painful or not so painful decisions are goig to have to be made.

Is what we have around him really that good or does he make them look good(excepting Graham)?

Give drwe brees whatever he wants. He is the heart and soul of the team, as well as the brain, right arm, lymphatic system, lungs, and voice.

LOL Now I take back everything I said Frick him if he thinks Drew isn't great!

He's referring to the Yahoo article written about the Brees situation

The quote seems a little over blown. I'm sure it wasn't as if someone called Brees great and Loomis replied with a "Eh, he's very good, but..."

That was the word coming out of the NFL scouting combine this past week, when Saints general manager Mickey Loomis tried to define Brees as “very good” when the quarterback was called “great,” according to three league sources.

There is not a single person on this site who knows as much about player personnel or salary cap management as Loomis. Not one.
It's fun to watch stupidity spew forth.

That's absolute bullshite. Even if Loomis did think this, which he doesn't, Payton who has an almost equal opinion on player moves would smack him in the mouth for suggesting that dumb shite.

Loomis has been drafting like a fricking boss, has made superb moves with FAs from other teams (Greer, Vilma and Sproles really stand out, and I can't think of any really bad ones outside of the CB from the Colts who shall not be named), and for the most part has kept the right players (overpaying Harper and Moore last year were disappointing, but he made up for it in the surprisingly great Bushrod extension). He could have a down year, uppercut Rita in the uterus, and will STILL be kept by Tom Benson.
