some mind numbing stats from a Denver post article-

To say the Saints only throw the ball on third down, no matter the situation, is to speak the truth. Even in situations as short as third-and-2, they have thrown 87.5 percent of the time. And on third-and-3, they pass 85.7 percent of the time.
Beyond third-and-3, however, they throw every single time. As in no exceptions.
So far, in six games, they have run 55 plays on third-and-4 or longer — everywhere from third-and-4 to third-and-26 — and thrown the ball on all 55 of those plays. That total doesn't include penalty snaps, but there isn't a run to be found anywhere in there.
Not one.
The Saints have thrown eight times on third-and-4, seven times on third-and-5 and 11 times on third-and-6. There are plenty of offenses that would see the kind of defensive formations the Saints routinely see with Brees behind center, with defensive backs all over the field, that would take a shot at running the ball from time to time, to beat the defensive speed on the field with power.
The Saints have not . They have simply chosen to do on third down what they have done with so many other things this season — lean on Brees and hope he has the strength to pull them where they want to go.

What is our 3rd down conversion percent?
Probably pretty damn good.
The article seems to ignore that.

Since Brees got here i think its one of the best in the league. Someone else fact check that.

ETA:
As for this:
quote:

lean on Brees and hope he has the strength to pull them where they want to go.

He is the best player on our team, the team leader, one of he best QB's currently and ever in the NFL, and a future HOFer. Why wouldnt we lean on him?

There's a reason we pay him so goddamn much.

He ABSOLUTELY carries this team.

Some of the you seem to be taking offense to the article. From what I can tell I don't think it's badmouthing anyone. Just stating what the Saints do.

agree

to me just amplifies how good he is. we certainly want to see more balance going forward but until that works better and/or the defense leaves the land of dreadfulness it's nice to know he can carry a team so far by himself.

All this being said, maybe it would be a good opportunity to run a bit more.

Saints do use him/lean on him and for good reason. Problem with that is when Drew is done with surgically slicing up a secondary, it's done very quickly. Allows the D to come on the field and get gashed. Just really wish we had the ability to, or were more of a threat to, grind some drives out more consistently.

We just need to stop taking our foot off the gas. If we can deflate a teams moral with our O, their O will play worse.

Didn't they say during Sunday's game that we are second in the league on 3rd down conversions? Thought it was 47% or something like that. Don't quote me on it as truth.

Sometimes in our lives
We all lose games
We all have sorrow
But if we are wise
We know that there's always tomorrow

Lean on Brees
When you're not strong
He'll be your friend
He'll help you carry on...

Some small parasites
They have no brain
But they cause sorrow
Fluke, tapeworm or mites
Blighters that bite,
Infest or burrow

Feed on me
Then I'm not strong and
I'll be your host
I'll be just carrion
If I don't last long
Then they're gonna need
Some body to feed on

You swallow your food
It may have bugs
Cook it well, lest you
In-gest what ain't good
Miniscule thugs
That will infest you

There's flukes in your liver when they need a host
They all need some body to feed on
For you might have a body that they need the most
It may be your body they feed on

Fleas on me
They make me itch
It never ends
I have to carry them
For ain't life a bitch
They're gonna bleed
This body they feed on

Your colon's a bother when you got the worms
They all need some body to feed on
Wish that you wrecked 'em, 'cause they make you squirm
They all need some body to feed on

If you got an itch you have to bear
Causing a ruckus
No, it isn't nice, carrying lice
Those little f.. er.. suckers

It's itchy, and you need to scratch
(They all need a body to feed on)
It's itchy, and you need to scratch
(They all need a body to feed on)
