If you want to have a good day it's best not to think about it

This is where it pays to have good owners - Kraft would get him some money down the road and Ram would trust him to do so and would retire

Works best for us if he doesn't officially retire until after this next season because we have his bonus money prorated out for another few years. Even if he can't play, I think we see him on the roster all year.

Retiring next offseason saves us $18mil vs. the 2025 cap but we'll carry $11.5 mil in dead money in 2025 and $12 mil in dead money in 2026.

This isn't about money in his pocket. This is about cap implications, which ownership can't fix. Ram was one of our 2 "piggy banks" to get under the cap and there is a monstrous amount of dead cap waiting.

I believe that he took a paycut and there is a good chance he's a roster spot only, b/c he can't "retire" until June of 2025, for cap purposes. We're basically paying him a few million to not destroy our 2025 cap (which would happen if he retired today).

No. You just needed to be educated a bit.

His contract restructure down to the minimum tells you exactly how this is going to work. He will go on PUP for season, retire next season.

The $6.5M in guarantees is what I was referencing. We're basically paying him that not to retire this year.

Is Ram basically looking like a no-go for the start of the season? If he is good to go though, how long does he last before going on IR?

Start? I don't think it's expected he plays a down this year.

With how jacked up the cap is, it honestly would not surprise me if they push this off until June 2026. Have a similar restructure in 2025 dropping his 2025 ca hit from $29.7M to $13M, then do a final one in 2026 for him to retire in 2026 and you basically get to manage his cap hit over 4 years instead of 2 or 3.

The most activity I expect to see from Ram is at some point they activate him to the active roster to run through some drills and have a setback so the league doesn't come down harshly for manipulating the cap

That would be wild

It's theoretically possible. I mean if he's done, he's making $0 elsewhere, so sitting on the IR for $4-6.5M a year is probably fine with him

He could get thin, get healthy, and help coach the OL behind the scenes. Win win situation.
