What not looking forward to WWL forcing Deke into the play by play spot?

Please tell me this a bad joke. Living in Atlanta I don't get to listen to Henderson much anymore. Is he retiring this year? And if so, surely Deke can't be replacing him can he? I honestly won't be able to listen to WWL again.

Deke Hokie and Bobby should officially be named the heir apparent team though

So glad Jim is continuing with Saints play by play. His opening monologue for each game is poetry.

It is a bad joke but it wouldn't shock me if they did it once Jim decides to retire from the radio. Hopefully they take this transition time to hire an actual professional radio broadcaster to be eased into the spot whenever he's needed.

Just from a technical perspective I am really surprised Deke has been so successful in radio. His sing-song Mickey Mouse voice is terrible.

No way will they let Deke do play by play. Besides, I doubt he has any interest in it. He knows the high school games are his comfort level.

WWL seems to be under the impression(which is partially true) that people in NOLA won't listen to anyone unless they're from NOLA. Is there anyone in NOLA who has the chops for the job besides Henderson? Not that I've heard. WWL is also under the impression that they can assign anybody to do Saints coverage because everybody in NOLA will listen anyway(also partially true) hence Deke and Bobby on-air.

Henderson is not from NOLA.

Hmmm . . . offhand I can't think of anyone else locally who actually does play by play other than Sean Kelly.

WWL management traditionally has known its audience pretty well. While Deke and Bobby are ridiculous by normal broadcast standards, they seem to be pretty well accepted here. It's not as if Hap Glaudi and Buddy D. were in the same mold as Edward R. Murrow.

What did I miss? Did this change? I've had my head up Kiel's arse for the last 12 hours.

But he's been here forever. I'm saying they aren't hiring some radio guy from Dallas and letting him take over. Just ask Gerry V how his sports talk foray went, luckily for him he's tied to the Hornets so he can't be completely run out of town.

Actually, Gerry V is cooking along just fine on the new 106.1. 4 (or 5) to 7 pm sports talk weekdays.

And I have no idea what WWL will do when Jim retires.

That's been on for what two weeks now and I'm sure his Hornets ties greatly aided him getting that gig. His stint on 690 was less than successful though.

No, nothing changed. All people are saying is we'll miss Jim when he does leave radio. Tonight was just his last Saints commentary, which I will personally miss. I apologize for any confusion.
