Hayes likely was illegally possessing his gun

Have not seen this mentioned by any media outlet or any certain coach's ignorant ranting.
Full disclosure- I'm no lawyer. Just read a few things and put 2 and 2 together.
Hayes has a criminal background and had spent 6 months in jail. One conviction was actually illegal possession of firearm.
As I said not sure on letter of the law but in Louisiana convicted felons are barred from owning firearms. There was a Supreme Court case about it a few years ago.
Shouldn't this fact change the dynamic of the interaction between Hayes and Smith? Does this change the argument of Hayes' lawyer?

Hayes has a criminal background and had spent 6 months in jail. One conviction was actually illegal possession of firearm.
quote:
In 2012, Hayes was arrested for and subsequently plead guilty to a weapons charge and possession of codeine syrup. He would spend 6 months in prison following a long legal battle. In 2014, he plead guilty as a first-time offender to illegally carrying a firearm and drug paraphernalia, resulting in a 6-month probation sentence.
As I said not sure on letter of the law but in Louisiana convicted felons are barred from owning firearms. There was a Supreme Court case about it a few years ago.
quote:
Under Louisiana law, people convicted of felony crimes are barred from having guns within 10 years of the time they complete their punishment, whether prison or parole.
quote:
The court already had handed down narrowly tailored rulings in upholding the illegal gun possession laws. In December, justices ruled the law did not violate the constitutional rights of people charged with gun possession while they're on probation or parole. That decision originated from New Orleans, in the case of Glen Draughter.
Shouldn't this fact change the dynamic of the interaction between Hayes and Smith? Does this change the argument of Hayes' lawyer?

I would say no. He either proves it's self defense and Hayes only serves for illegal possession or it's proved it wasn't self-defense and he gets life without parole or death penalty.

Idk what's going to happen but he's a convicted felon right? If so fry this fools brain in the chair and call it a day

Yes he pled to a misdemeanor.

This is where I wasnt sure. So his charges aren't considered felony in Louisiana?

I'm not sure how you plead self defense after you intentionally ram your car into another persons vehicle.
He became the aggressor at that point and never retreated so his role as the aggressor continues.
He is held held responsible for the escalation.

who said that he rammed him intentionally? maybe Smith hit his breaks just like Hayes hit his on Magazine st. The truth is no one on this board knows what truly happen and should stop trying to paint a picture in their head until the court ruling and more evidence comes out on the matter.

Death penalty should be off the table.

Ummmmm... the fact that Smith's car was rammed into the vehicle in front of it makes that highly unlikely and pretty stupid. It is clear from the description of the incident that it was either intentional (most likely) or entirely on Hayes who clearly had no intention of stopping.

Whether he is a felon (convicted of a felony) or not (he's not according to most reports), he better have permits for both guns or he should be put in jail.
Make a statement that idiots who illegally carry guns will suffer the consequences, especially given he had illegal possession charges before.
