Growing up a Saints fan, what are some traditions and/or things you remember doing and seeing ect ect over the years in the Superdome?

I can remember going to games when I was 6 yrs old. When you're that age it wasn't so much about winning or losing (mostly losing ) and more about having a good time. I can remember thinking the superdome was the biggest most magical place on the planet!

Remember when you couldn't go a single timeout without seeing a paper airplane. Our seats were in the plaza back then and I used to be so jealous that my paper airplanes would never be able to travel far like they did from the terrace.

Food was also a big thing for me when I was younger. I just had to get the french fries in a cup every game. They need to bring those back!

The season ticket holders next to us were 2 older black guys who were best friends. One of the guys had a walking cane with him every game... it would unscrew from the top and it had 2 long glass cylinders inside for sneaking in alcohol. I thought that was some brilliant james bond type shite.

Lets hear some of your superdome stories through the years?

The first year that my father and I had season tickets I was about 12 I think. We were pretty high up in the Terrace, about 5 or so rows from the top. There was this group of young brothers that sat next to us that year. They were cool as shite. The one that sat next to me would drink those mug beers, and he pretty much always passed out by the middle of the third quarter. He would start leaning up against my shoulder then apologize and straighten himself up. Good times.

I think a lot of fans can relate to this bc about every section in the dome has that one drunk guy... especially in the terrace.

First ever game: Cleveland browns hailmary to win at the end. Ill never forget it, I was with my uncle and I said we have this won right before the snap. He looked at me and said watch...after the play he looked right at me and said now you know.

fricking Tim Couch! The ball was tipped and it was 5 defenders on 2 receivers if I recall.

To this day that still is one of the worse losses I ever experienced in the dome.

one of my first memories of being in the dome was when the saints played the 49ers (I think) and during halftime some of the fireworks caught the rafters on fire

I don't remember the severity of the fire but as a little kid I was certain the building was going to burn down

Relatively obscure game, but one of my favorites. November 16, 1997, Saints v Seahawks, my 8th birthday and first Saints game.

Game was tied in the final minute. Saints are driving in Seahawks territory and trying to get in better FG position. Doug Nussmeier (who's in for an injured Heath Shuler) fumbles a hand-off with 50-something seconds left. Seattle takes over, gets in FG range in about two plays, then misses a FG to force OT.

Seahawks get the ball first. Winfred Tubbs intercepts Warren Moon on one of the first plays of OT. Ditka sends out Doug Brien on 1st down without running an offensive play ( ).

Nails it. Saints win.

I think this sound bite was after the game you just mentioned

LINK

I watched those season highlight reels so much on tape that I'm pretty sure it was that game.

As far as music at the game, I've never heard one song played more than "Who Let the Dogs Out?" than what I did at the Saints-49ers game in 2000.

Edit: Yes... I think it got played more than Stand Up and get Crunk by the Ying Yang Twins.

It seemed like they would play that after every QB sack.

Fun game by the way, whipped the 49ers arse.

at the time, I thought that song would never go away.

remember when they used to play trick daddy's take it to the house when michael lewis was on the goaline waiting to return kickoffs? the dome would dance there arse off to that song. they really should bring that back IMO.

another favorite is when they play Walk by Pantera after a turnover on downs.

Anyone remember when the tee retriever was an ACTUAL retriever (the dog) ?

Oh, and I miss around Christmas time when they would blast Carol of the Bells over the PA system when the away team was huddling. I think the NFL made us cut that one out.

yeah, I remember one time the Saints wore the gold jerseys when they played the Vikings and he ran one back (2002 I think). I don't think I've seen them wear those jerseys since though. But I definitely remember the tune by Trick Daddy.

another game I remember pretty well was the Saints-Packers game from 2002. A buddy and I sat by a big group of Packers fans. You know, they were really good sports that day and were cutting up and laughing with us just about the whole time. One guy turned to me and gave me five after Jerry Fontenot leveled some Packers DB on a screen pass. He just said, " You guys are really good."

good call! I miss fetch monster. nowadays its some 4 yr old girl or boy, booooooring.

I should train my dog to retrieve a tee like that and then go ask the superdome executives to give him the job. I'd go as far as even changing my dogs name to Football.

thank god! the shiny gold

they need to bring back the throwback jerseys they wore when we swept Tampa Bay the year they won the SB. That was a crazy game... I accidentally spilled my friends double crown and water just moments after he got back from spending $22 for it. he was devastated.

Jets @ Saints 2001

Kyle Turley.
I was 6 rows up from that side of the field. I remember Aaron Brooks screaming as he was being knocked backwards and the melee that followed.

Back in '02 after beating Pittsburgh in the Dome, there was a STRONG Who Dat chant on the way out. All of a sudden it gets silent, and this old man with a cane and decked out in San Francisco gear appears in the middle of the crowd and goes, "Da Fawty Ninuhs! Da Fawty Ninuhs! TWO WEEKS." Dude got booed like crazy.

Two weeks later, AB and Joe Horn led what I think was a 13-point fourth-quarter comeback to beat San Fran. Great, great game.
