He wasn't entirely a bust as a free agent signing but certainly was no playmaker. Posting just to encourage that there are much worse front offices...

Raiders ILB Curtis Lofton was benched in favor of rookie Neiron Ball in Week 5 against the Broncos.
Lofton has been one of Pro Football Focus' worst inside linebackers through three weeks, and Ball got the start and played 36 snaps to Lofton's 22. Ball's strength is in coverage, and he was used primarily to stop Broncos TE Owen Daniels. It worked, as Daniels recorded zero catches on five targets. The Raiders gave Lofton $10 million guaranteed in March after he was released by the Saints.

-Deserving of a thread is examination of insufficient draft investment toward LBs.

Thanks for posting.

Lets give our FO some praise for knowing to pull the plug on this guy. There were lots of people upset about releasing him with no back-up ready.

I'm a sunshine pumper I know, but I believe we started our two year rebuild last season. Better days are coming!

If only they would have taken this approach with a few other declining vets on the team.

Hopefully Ireland is the guy that brings the Pats mentality to the team.

Yeah, there's no middle ground with the posters on this board. They either come out of the woodwork saying how bad we suck and should wear bags on our heads and trade our best players and fire coaches or start threads taunting other teams when they are down and saying how great we are and will set all kinds of season records by week 10.

Don't we still have a lot of dead cap space next year? That will probably make it a three year rebuild, but hopefully we'll have room to pick up some good free agents for 2017, and by then some of our younger players will be coming into their prime.

We have Junior's dead space next year. I think it is $14.8 million

If we extend Brees, we should have room to make free agent moves, especially with the cap space available in the following years.

It is mainly about the draft though. I'd like to get 1 guard in FA and take another in the 2nd or 3rd. Need a pass rusher and WR too

Yes it is a bright spot
I would say our 2 rookies were SOLID picks and should continue to pay dividends

Kikaha has been a bright spot more than not. Anthony has flashed good at times. The LB position has not been a bright spot though.

Lofton leaving is a bright spot. Haralson leaving not so much.

Man, Lofton was a top player for the Saints. I don't take kind to people trying to dump on him on here. Y'all are idiots! Hawthorne has done absolutely jack shite with the Saints since he has been there, but they got rid of a very productive player and kept Hawthone because they didn't wanna pay Lofton what was comin to him. It's obvious Lofton has quit as a player with having gone to a shite hole of a team like Oakland. I can't blame him, I would to.

Lofton was okay but he was being paid top 5 ILB money(I think I just know it was insane) in the league. He didn't deserve close to that money. He wasn't THAT good and was always a liability in coverage.

Dude always led the Saints in tackles. Was a tackling machine. Too much money his last season made him expendable, but the guy wasn't no bust like some on here are tryin to make him out to be. He was a durable player that showed up and always played.

Put that in perspective. Every tackle was 5-10 yards down the field which makes that statistic irrelevant. He was never disrupting a play or making a key stop at the line of scrimmage. His leadership left a lot to be desired as well. frick him.
