Montana not in the top 10? You must not have watched Saints games in the 80's.

Close, but finished off by Joe.

I would like to see Brees on the list but I can't say definitively who on that list doesn't belong.

ETA: Another problem for Drew is that he is, by most accounts, behind four QBs in his own era: Brady, Manning, Favre, and Rodgers. You would have to be seriously biased in favor of the current era to have him in the top 10 all time, though I still think there's a great case for him being in the top 15.

Examples from this list:

Bradshaw and Staubach were almost universally considered tops in their era.

Unitas clearly the best in his era. Ditto for Graham.

Montana and Marino tops in their era.

I think the best argument for Brees would be over the still-great Jim Kelly.

It kind of goes back to what another poster basically said, the only reason Brees does not get held in the same breath as the others is because he doesn't have an MVP. Even though he has played well enough to deserve at least 1. With that said, the only thing Farve will have over Brees is the 3 MVPs. They both have 1 SB win and Brees could very well have all of Farve's records once he retires.

Also, why would anyone laugh at Kelly? Tarkenton?

Tarkenton should be laughed at for saying he "(I) can outplay anyone who's ever played the game" and claiming HE is the greatest. The real shocker is Staubach not in the top 10. If Brees would have stayed in San Diego I don't think we'd hear as much fuss on this particular forum.

Solid logic.

I agree with you, though I also have a sense being on more successful teams as a general matter. It's not just the one ring for Drew, it's also the fact that we haven't even been to the playoffs that often - a crime that isn't his fault, but when you're ID'ing the best 15 ever, you're going to have to slice some things thinly, especially when dealing with QBs from the same era.

lolwut

Montana has a claim as best QB ever. He was Brady before Brady became Brady.

Look at their stats (in comparison to Brees)

"Empty stats" is garbage.

Dude does his job. Had a great season. Consistently completes passes at all ranges.

The other guys deserve their spots as well. But c'mon. Brees is the only reason we got to 7 and Bradshaw or Brady wouldn't have a single more win on THIS team.

How would Bradshaw do under a 3 win Nola team?

Brees would win as many with that team

How many qbs would have the success Brees has had at Nola even against hof qbs.

Since joining the Saints in 06 until bounty gate like 2011 or so no other qb in the entire NFL had more wins than him. None.

Saints have had a hard time recovering from that yet Brees has been top 2 in just about every qb stat since then.

The only one that's even debatable is him or Tark. And that's a toss up. The list is fine.

Well said.

People just need to realize this is rarefied air we are talking about.

Watched a lot of J Kelly in the day and he was legit. Would it even be a question if Norwood hits the chippy?

Tark is another right there along with Kelly that I think Brees is in a class with.

If this list was top 17...

Everyone on the list has either multiple SB wins
Sounds like they put too much stock into team achievements to me. Drew Brees should absolutely be on the list.

I don't agree with Brady being #1

Sorry. Having the best team around you doesn't make you the best QB
