I'm beginning to drink the kool-aid from a lot of the talking heads that OL may not be as big a target in this draft as we fans think it should be.

A lot of chatter about DE and offensive weapon with the 14th and 45th picks.

Maybe just smoke being put out but we all know this is a deep OL class and they appear to be feeling like they can address the Oline with a FA veteran(Maybe keeping Peat) and mid round prospect to compete and seeing what the new staff can do with the young talent they already have on roster.

I can say I'd be disappointed with this strategy as I feel the majority of the problem was scheme and coaching the last 3 years.

they know the players better than we do. i can see peat manning LT and they prolly see something in saldiveri. maybe they have designs on penning at LG or RT. the problem with this OT class is that only a couple at the top played LT in college. all the rest are great RT that for some reason didn't play LT in college.

eta: i think brian thomas is the truth and would be excited to nab him at 14.

Waste a first round on a lineman that will never play or will be hurt, etc. that’s my expectation

I don't get the feeling that they've given up on Penning at LT at all. The word is they have not made any suggestions ar moving him to the inside at this point. I believe they (or someone ) realizes that they rushed him into the starting line up after his setbacks in this first year and leading into his seconded training camp.

I think unless some team offers Peat upper tier LT money then the Saints offer him the best opportunity as a starter at LT going into camp because I can't see any other team offering him the starting job with the pay along with it. If they do, then good for him, no hard feeling for taking the better opportunity and money.

Al that should be settled prior to the draft so.

Winston was already under contract and is current base salary is for the vet minimum for a player with at least 7 accrued seasons.

Cam was a necessary restructure as the team fights to get under the cap and appear to be doing everything possible to avoid touching Ram's contract

I think they'll look for picks to give Kubiak pieces to implement in the new offense. If a dynamic tight end is on the board in our first or second picks, I could see us going with Bowers or Sanders from Texas. I'd keep an eye on McCaffrey out of Rice in the fifth since Kubiak has a pretty strong connection to that family.

Would be difficult for anyone to really know what they're doing with him at this point until Kubiak has time to install his new system and start plugging in guys and seeing where they may thrive.

I really like both of these picks and hope they fall to us.

Well I mean both Mickey and Dennis have mention they still see him as a LT and need to do a better job developing him. These comments were also after the Kubiak interviews and subsequent hiring so I would surmise that they talked about Penning at least some with their new offensive coordinator and likely new Oline coach. I'm sure both Benton and Kubiak are at least familiar with Penning from scouting the 22 draft so I imagine they could make pretty informed opinions about his potential and possible fit in their plans.

100% this. We are not in win now mode. We are not one piece away from making a run. We have needs at almost every position group. Draft the best player available and make sure he has a good head on his shoulders.

It's nice to see the coming qb frenzy lol. I see four already going before us. Possible 5! Our pick at 14 is getting better and more valuable every day.

While it would be great to see a huge run on QBs in the top 10, isn't that always the case at this time every year. I recall everyone having Young & Stroud in the top 5, many had Levis up there (even some as #1), Hooker was supposed to go mid-1st and Richardson was all over the place in the first round but outside the top 10. There was also some love for DTR, but I think that was pre-combine.

Obviously nailed Young & Stroud, Richardson went earlier than everyone expected, Levis fell to the 2nd and Hooker to the 3rd

They need help everywhere. Take the best player and be ready to take a QB if one is there.

True but this year we already have 3 qbs locked in first five. JJ McCarthy looks like he may go top 15.
Then you have Bo Nix and Penix. So I would five as a long shot and four very possible.

I think Bo Nix might slide like Will Levis did last year.

I'm not trying to knock him I'm just saying there's always someone that falls.

Something that I found a little odd about McCarthy I watched some Michigan games this year and especially the one where Harbaugh was suspended he really didn't pass that much but I guess they were just trying to be conservative and you know they were confident enough in their defense in their run game to win it.
