Depends, would the saints have cut him? Would he have made more elsewhere? Do you think he will actually play two more years? I dont.

From the way I understand it, he's still going to get at least what he was due this year by the time it's all said and done, he just gets shite numbers the next couple of years so that they can spread the total contract over that because the avg per yr is way down now.

So now he's kinda screwed if he still has more left in the tank but I doubt he will

Yup. We are all in for the next 2-3 years. They will just keep kicking the can until Brees retires or is let go. Then its a shitshow. Tons of dead money, bad contracts etc. We'll basically just have to be bad for 2 years.

i'm not making a subjective evaluation

lots of times restructuring involves a paycut, though. it does seem like the NFL is moving away from that (and straight up cutting/trading guys...like peppers, revis, etc), but it used to be the vast majority involved paycuts. it's probably 50/50 now
