Damian Swann scouting

Found this video on Draft Breakdown, and it has led me to believe that Swann could have the upper hand on winning that nickel corner job. He went berserk against Nebraska in this 2012 game.
Swann isn't the best athlete, but he has excellent instincts and size for a defensive back. Unlike P.J. Williams and all the other corners on our roster it seems, Swann is best suited to play off of the line of scrimmage with more of a zone-man responsibility. He seems really comfortable manning a place on the field as opposed to just a man. Perfect fit for the nickel back position in Rob Ryan's defense.
Assuming Stephone Anthony and Kikaha get lots of playing time off the bat, Swann is my next best bet to make an impact for the team.

lolno, that's Williams/Breaux all the way. I don't think Swann makes the team. Most are saying he was toast at Georgia.

I didn't like the Swann pick at first, but I'm warming up to it. I'm still not sure he was worth two draft picks, but if he makes the team and plays well then obviously he will be.

Yeah, that was the one pick that I really didn't care for, especially with Dez Lewis, Tre McBride, or even Ifo still on the board.

Kyle Bust Wilson needs some nickelback competition, probably worth the compensation for us. Look at this sixth round pick, everytime i do it makes me laugh, why did our eyes get so red and what the hell is this murphy kid

He struggled when he was forced to play more man coverage, but had way more success when he played a hybrid corner/safety role.
I like the Swann pick a lot more than the PJ Williams pick after watching some tape of the two. Williams has a better frame and is more athletic overall, but he's severely lacking in technique and isn't very fast. For example, his jam at the line of scrimmage isn't very good and if he doesn't win on the line, his 4.56 speed comes to bite him in the arse as receivers blow past him.

You can never have too much depth. I think Byrd, Vaccaro, K. Lewis, B. Browner, P.J. Williams, and R. Bush have a spot.
Sunseri probably has a spot as well as Warren. SJB has to show something this year. If Swann can play special teams and be a guy who comes in and can play on the line of scrimmage on 3rd downs, he can probably find a place on this team as a dime back. I think his biggest competition may end up being Kenny Phillips.

Ifo and Mcbride were there for our 7th if we wanted them

I know that. I would have been happier with staying in the 6th, keeping our 6th next year and taking one of those three. However, it isn't a big deal, and I'm sure either decision at the point isn't going to make or break this team. Just my personal preference.

If he makes the team, someone needs to edit this gif with Matty Ice's face and change it to say "stop intercepting me Swann!"
