The article stating that players did not know the rules does not also mean the coaches were not aware of the rule changes. They probably figured it wasn't worth their time to sit there and explain the difference when the only difference was the 2nd team will get the ball no matter what. Additionally, the new rules had no impact on the result of the game, so this is basically a non-story. Since the 2010 season, the rule was already in place that if the 1st team gets the FG, the 2nd team still gets a chance to tie/win the game.

That is useless info for a DA coached team since it requires making it to the actual playoffs.
