Can someone explain the Michael Vick infinite goal line TD?

Basically, when the rule was in place, the goal line extended around the globe (this is how it was described) so as long as you extend the ball over the goal line whether inside or outside the pylon it was a touchdown. I believe it has been changed and now you must be inside the pylon or touch it to get a TD.

That's how I understood the rule.

Thinking back, the play you are describing, I believe, Vick extended the ball over the goal line outside of the pylon and extended his free hand over the goal line inside of the pylon. I think it might have been that you had to have a body part over the goal line inside of the pylon for the infinite goal line to be "active". It really was stupid, but it was a hell of a play.

That's exactly right. The ball was probably 4 feet from the pylon and was last in the field of play around the 3 yard line when he dove. Great athletic play that took advantage of a terrible rule.
