Not a big deal if they're just doing a single level decompression. If he's coming back in a week, its definitely not a fusion or anything that requires immobility. I work spine tomorrow - I'll ask the surgeon what would require surgery for an asymptomatic disc allowing an athlete at this level back to practice so quickly.
