While the offensive line play was absolutely dogshit, hopefully we never put that line on the field in 2016.

In the last 5 games of 2015 with the emergence of Kelemete and even Peat, the Saints averaged 29.4 ppg (38 against Carolina), and Brees was absolutely lights out:

334 ypg
68.2%
334 ypg
11 TDs
1 Int

106.3 Passer Rating

I hated the Peat and Grayson picks as much as anyone on this board and am still upset we ignored the G position again, but a line of Armstead, Kelemente, Unger, Peat, and Strief should still be an improvement over last season.

If Armstead goes down, we're fricked

But that was last year. What I watched Saturday was very concerning the Texans are not that good. I know it's preseason but the OL line looked terrible and you can't blame it all on one position.

They just need to pick a spot for Peat and keep him there.

Lelito is garbage so move Peat to his spot.

Agree I think Peat would be okay at guard. I don't think Lelito blocked anyone all night. When is Armstead back?

Yes it was. And those players were young last year and even had Armstead miss some time during that stretch.

Their defense, even without Watt, is very, very good (and we didn't really have Armstead. They crushed us last year

I didn't blame it on 1 position. I blamed it on 2-3 positions.

LT: replace Peat with Armstead = instant upgrade
G: replace Tim with Peat = instant upgrade

You can hide weaknesses on the oline when you can plan for it and know where the pressure will most likely come from. You can't plan around it when you have 3 holes. Strief is easily serviceable at RT, but he can't have the guy next to him getting dominated play in and out.

It is infuriating and having Lelito playing pathetic next to you can't help.

Lelito is a solid backup due to his versatility. The starting experiment for him has ended. He can't fill in for long periods of time. Way too inconsistent.

I think Kelemente can give us above average guard play. I've been nothing but impressed with him almost everytime he's gotten the chance. We need average G play from Peat and then we can provide him help with Unger. Armstead, Peat, Unger is a lot of beef

Finally a thread with some people with common sense and a footbal IQ.

Lelito has been getting abused, and I completely agree you need to stop moving Peat from RG to LT to RT and so on. That is so hard to do.

This defense looks much, much better. It's crazy people aren't focusing on that. The way Fairley was playing has to get you excited. Also the young corners we have are 100 times better than Browner was. I even liked when the WR caught a crossing route in front of PJ, because he popped that dude after the catch. He is going to be solid. He plays fluid and with confidence and that is what we need at CB. He gave up the TD and came right back with a pass break up and an INT.

What is so funny is that everyone is freaking out about the offense after a whole 4 series with the first string.
Since Payton got here the offense has finished outside of the Top 5 just once. So 9 out of 10 season the offense has been a Top 5 offense in the NFL. There is not really any reason to think the offense will not be fine

True. I can't remember it being this bad since I've started reading the forums. Hopefully when LSU starts they will stay over on the rant.

Yes I am well aware I live here man; believe me I know what they did last year. They have a decent defense that is it. And they aren't Seattle or Ravens dominant take over games with Ray Lewis in his prime good. I'm not ready to write the season off as some here are, but what I have seen so far is reason for concern.

That's what beat us what their defense. 9 points and 4 turnovers.

If that was a regular season game I would have puked.

Well hopefully they play a lot better in the dome. I knew when they lost that big pass play on a fumble the Saints were in trouble.

OL play has to get better, true, but game 1 Drew plays one drive, game 2 he doesn't have his top 2 targets. We'll see.

I had been invited by some friends to go watch the game and cook out. Of course the friends would have included several Texans, we had other plans already so glad I declined.

What?

They have a great defense. And I mean a GREAT defense. Their secondary was absolutely awesome the 2nd half of the season.

Now they're adding a healthy Clowney. Hell, they are a good defense without JJ, he just makes them great.

If they stay healthy, they are going to push Denver for the best defense in the league. Their pass rush is insane.

Edit: They held 5 of their last 9 opponents to under 7 points, including the Saints. Their opponents averaged under 13 ppg in those games. They finished 3rd in ypg despite their slow start to the season.

More on the Texans

quote:

Over the past four games, the stats show just how dominant the Texans have been. They're giving up an incredible 8.75 points per game (and in three of their last four, haven't surrendered a touchdown). They're holding opposing teams to 180.5 passing yards per game, have only given up ONE passing touchdown, and have picked off the ball five times and registered eight takeaways.

quote:

In the last month (or last four games for every team), Houston leads the NFL in opponent points per game, opponent yards per game, opponent yards per play, opponent pass yards per game, opponent touchdowns, and have the most sacks. They're tied for second best in opponent rushing touchdowns and rushing yards per game.

Not bad for "decent"
