I discussed this at length before and after the game with my friends, and we all agreed that Brees struggles more against this scheme than any other one we could think of. Specifically, he seems to NEVER see the MLB drop into the deep zones to take away the seam routes he loves so much. He almost threw 2 picks directly to the dropping LB. Also, he seems to be good for 1 or 2 forced deep throws that seem to always get thrown into double coverage or are picked.

Can anyone else think of other schemes that have owned him so much in the past?

I think even when he does see it he tries to fit it in a little too much. He's so good when he's confident in his pass protection but when he's not, he's always looking over his shoulder and trying to get rid of it quickly which leads to some bad decisions/throws. I still think we can win a decent amount of games if the oline can get it together but I'm not sure if that's ever going to happen.

I think it has more to do with pressure generated while dropping back numbers

I think Brees struggles against ANY defense where he has a lineman in his face and his to scramble for his life.

Yeah, I mean, they were generating huge pressure with four.

Everyone else on their defense can drop into coverage.
That's not gonna make it easy for anyone.

the infamous "shell of his former self" gane was also against a Tampa 2 team. He was horrible against it from 2007-2008 and then he had it licked for 2009.

Then 2010 he sucked against Tampa 2 again (including "shell" game).

Then he licked it in 2011.

He's sucked against Tampa 2 ever since IMO even though we managed to win some in 2013 and last year his performances were pedestrian with picks and mistakes.

As a poster from 2014, how do you know this?

The game you let everyone know how special you were?

Then again, you also said Drew was a below average QB last year. You're brilliant

Teams have learned to pressure Drew up the middle for 2 reasons. First, he's not an exceptionally mobile QB. Second, even on his worst days, if you let him step up in a pocket and have time to look, he'll kill you.

He's not Michael Vick, but he's pretty damn mobile

His sack to pressure % last year was absolutely outstanding, and always has been

Like most good QBs.

Every team tries to generate pressure up the middle. Our Guards used to be exceptional though. This isn't something new teams are trying. It's the weakpoint of our offensive line

Brees has had a duck ton more problems with the 3-4 looks I over the years vs the Tampa 2.

I don't remember him having much trouble with the Tampa 2 to be honest.
