Go...

Also, why did we not franchise tag Bushrod? (A lot of people say its because we used it on Brees, but Brees signed his big deal in July 2012 and Bushrod didnt sign with Bears until March 2013 so how is that possible). TIA

False, there were many other players under contract that weren't worth the shite they were paid way more so than Drew's contract.

Smith
Roman
Grubbs
Vilma
Bunkley
Jahri didn't have a great year
Hawthorne prolly isn't worth his deal
Moore
prolly some more out there.

False.

Brees is getting paid market value. As Chad posted, plenty of guys are making wayyyyy more than similar players at their position.

Evans has settled in
Hawthorne has played great and been all over the place
Bunkley has done what he was brought into do. Very few runs towards him go anywhere. I still don't think we can afford him next year.
Grubbs has been ok but surrounded by sub par players.
The others you said need to go

IMO, Bushrod wasn't worth the money we'd have to pay him with the tag. Was he better than Charles Brown or Armstead? Absolutely. But not worth what the tag would've cost.

Chad, regarding Bushrod - did we just not want him or what? Why did we not use the tag on him?

Smith, Harper, and Vilma are all going to get cut after the season, so that should help

Partially true/false. We still have the cap room to sign good players and pay our rookies. Problem is it basically leaves no margin for error. If you miss on other contracts, you are screwed. You also have to draft really well. Our D is good because we have drafted well and signed solid FA's. We have done poorly on the O side and it is catching up. Once Graham gets on his new contract, we will even be in a more can't miss situation.

Having a great QB comes with a cost. As well as Loomis has done, he will have to do even better we have any chance of winning another SB.

like it's been said, he was servicable, but not worth franchise money. Too many guys are overpaid already, why act desperate and overpay? As expected, this team needs an overhaul or rebuild. Not enough draft picks are being obtained to rebuild this team from the ground up. Free agency rewards the highest bidder. Teams have to be built through the draft and "suplemented" by free agency. Saints were successful in the early Payton tenure because they were finding gems and building on the cheap. Now these guys are all vets and trying to get paid. That's why this team is on the slow decline. Its time to cut bait, implement the "New England" covenant, and obtain a good 10-12 draft picks.

No doubt in my mind that Brees wil part with $$ to sign Grahem or an OL. It never happens the same year they sign the contract. Brees' future success is diectly dependent on OL pass and rush UPGRADE along with younger WR's that can spread the field (along with Graham).

True

1. His holdout cost us Nicks, though Loomis is in large to blame

2. His contract made it so we couldn't overpay a little for OUR STARTING LT...bushrod. We see the difference. Unlike Will Smith, Roman Harper and a number of other horrible contracts Loomis has made, Bushrod was a guy worth overpaying for, or at least keep Nicks

3. Unless Drew lowers his cap figure for the few remaining years he has left, this team isn't a contender

This is all before we get to Sean Payton's horseshite playcalling. If he has a stud line, a very good set of receivers and a great quarterback...he's a genius...take one of those elements away and he's the guy that Jim Fassel stripped of his playcalling duties. Great coach, but entirely overrated...can't believe he makes more than Bill Belichick.

no doubt. Sucks that manning had indy pay him that retarded contract knowing he wouldn't be able to play the next season...making the super contract franchise qb an unsustainable model unless you constantly hit on your draft picks. Broncos will prove it in the playoffs; however, manning is old so by the time they need to resign guys he will retire...the saints are a prime example and the ravens are about to be as well (and their qb sucks)

Nicks doesn't play because of an infection and Bushrod is infinitely better than anyone we have at either tackle position

I think he'll restructure his contract for OL just so he won't get sacked as much as he did like yesterday.

False. Bree's is making what he should be. It's a bunch of the other bums that aren't even good enough to be on the practice squad that ate up all the $$$
