LINK
My point to this link is how unimportant the Win/Losses are in preseason, they should be on the bottom of the list of priorities this time of year. This is the time under game conditions to see who can potentially help you and who is just taking up space. IMHO if you are focusing on wins in the preseason you would be exposing your proven players to injury and not culling the herd. Belichicks Super Bowl winning team got outscored by the Jaguars in preseason and he could not give a shite less.
I think he has his priorities in order. I think Coach Payton would agree.

Well the past 2 years we were winless in the preseason and finished 7-9 so there's that

I'm sorry but I didn't realize that the preseason record counted on the regular season record . So there's that.

I think the point is the lack of preseason wins has been a precursor for the Saints and their season the last 3 years. What we saw in preseason seems to have translated to regular season.

CB depth issues
No push from the D
giving up big plays
Losing the games late in the game
etc

Fact of the matter is if Cleveland had not completed that long pass most everyone would be singing a different tune about how our team had turned the corner and so on. These coaches are not focused on the score board they are focused in on individuals and game performance under game conditions.

We were 3-1 in 2014 and also finsihed 7-9.

We were 2-2 in 2011 and finished 13-3.

Preseason record is meaningless

2008 Detroit Lions:
Preseason: 4-0
Regular Season: 0-16

2007 New England Patriots:
Preseason: 2-2
Regular Season: 16-0

Preseason gives you a feel for the team that you are going to put out on the field. A lot of guys make a name for themselves and do well when it really comes time to play.

But they did complete that pass.

If you listened to CSP's post game interview he have a completely different tone then CBB.

You learn from your mistakes more so than your success. They will break down the film and look at what defense was called , how they can fix the mistakes and I don't think they will waste one frame of film looking at the scoreboard. Nobody likes to lose but if you are going to experiment , try different things and take a chance on a player the preseason is when you do it.

I think it's definitely worth monitoring if your team is bad in Preseason Week 2 and especially Week 3 when the players higher up on the depth chart get more playing time. But it's kind of ridiculous to care about your team being bad in the 4th quarter of Preseason week 1 - how many of the players on the field when we allowed those drives by Cleveland in the 2nd half are going to actually make our 53? A handful, if that.

I couldn't care less about the final score. And neither, apparently, does Payton... as you see by the team sitting Brees and Peterson out. I think we score a few more if those guys played.

I do have an issue with Crawley seemingly high up on the CB depth chart, and looking overmatched every other play. How many penalties did he draw?

Also continue having a problem with Grayson. We could have a solid contributor, maybe a starter, with that 3rd rd pick. But no, Payton wanted to waste it on a QB. In the best case scenario, he's a talented up-and-comer who might replace Brees, but still would not have contributed anything to the team thus far. But sadly, he's nowhere near ready to be an NFL QB, and it doesn't look like he ever will be. He just doesn't have "it".

The colts once went 0-5 in preseason and ended up with a 14-2 reg. season record and went to the super bowl. So theres that.

Preseason doesn't fricking matter. Starter play was encouraging, though brief. There are positives and negatives from last night.

Monday, Sept. 11 is the biggest must-win week 1 in NFL history. We play the world champion Pats with Cooks in week 2. 0-2 teams do not make the playoffs. Not looking up the stats. Saw them last year. Not good for 0-2 teams.

That Monday is the Super Bowl. Take off that Tuesday now, baws.

Y'all talk about this win or loss like we don't all know they don't count for shite. But there is a pattern of losing that needs to change.

Take a look at what KV has to say

Vaccaro: 'We need to win these preseason games'

I would be disappointed if Vaccaro said otherwise but the pattern of losing is directly correlated to a pattern of poor defensive performance due to poor player evaluation.
The preseason is the time to cull the herd. I feel your pain,as a fan I want the team to win every down, series and game but imho you break that losing pattern by focusing on improving the talent on your roster and coaching staff and the winning culture will follow when the games count.

I understand why a lot of people are frustrated. Fans are starving for a win in August/September because they are tired of seeing slow starts. I'd like to see them at least get one preseason win. More importantly I want to see the starters look good.

The Chicago Bears preseason record was 1-3 in 1985.

Under Payton we've drafted less QBs than any other team. The Patriots alone have drafted 7 QBs that never even played. Can we stop with this narrative that the Grayson pick ruined the franchise or something?

You really don't want to compare Payton to Belichek
Or the Saints to the Patriots.

Grayson is a bust, get rid of him and try again.

How many years does it take CSP to evaluate talent....I.e al toon, Arrington ...they spent 9.5 years on the practice squad!
