...after the Packers? Before the season started, the general consensus was that the Saints were one of the best teams in the league along with Green Bay. But after two losses, there are 5 other teams that have the same or better record than New Orleans in the NFC. Some people might stay it is still early, but more than a third of the season is over.

Are the two losses, the under performing defense, the lack of a good running game, Sean Payton's injury (and the effect it will have on the offense going forward) enough reasons to start having some doubts that this season could be a let down? What is the one area that the Saints have to definitely improve to have any chance of a deep play off run?

We are still elite. 4-5 miscues and turnovers, shotty defensive play, poor clock management... and we were still close to winning that game. No Worries.

There was a bear fan on here yesterday who stated that we are still the better team when compared to Detroit. As far as the Niners.. I haven't seen them play, so I'm not sure how they are winning.

I would say we are still the #2 team in the NFC.

I think everyone has been overreacting on this board. Our defence sucks, Drew Brees sucks and is an interception machine, our running game sucks, our OL and DL suck, Ingram is a bust, our linebackers suck, Vilma is done, etc, etc, etc. Damn, we just got off a 4 game win streak and won 2 on the road. The season isn't half way over yet.

Too many bandwagon fans on here. If we lose, it's the end of the world. I say who dat! and we will rebound with some home games.

nearly lost to houston and could have nearly lost to carolina. Outside of our passing game and darren sproles... we aren't playing at too high of a level.

If we are number two, there is a heckuva gap between 1 and 2 right now.

The problems being:

1) our defense is very pedestrian. (trying to put it nicely)

and

2) we have to rely on Drew Brees to do too much to win games for us. When that doesnt happen, and it wont always... dude's human... we lose.

Also, our OL can't open holes and can't protect Brees.

He makes the line look better than they actually are because of how quickly he delivers the football.

The line really does need to pick it up in the run blocking category.

Disagree. Elite teams don't do those things. Still competitive but not elite.

sF and Det both have some very strong strengths but they both have very big weaknesses just like the Saints.

The Saints best game is better than either of their best games if they played each other at their highest levels, IMO of course.

I don't think the gap between the 3 is large enough to say one is clearly better than the other though, unlike with GB and these 3 teams.

ETA: When Stafford gets hurt along with the Detroit late season collapse.........

I hope they make the playoffs, that would be awesome.

We are 2 plays from being 2-4.

We are also 2 plays from being 6-0.

As it stand we are 4-2 and control our own destiny. We'll get it together.

It's not like the Packers have some amazing defense and an incredible running game. They are a mirror image of us, just playing at a higher level at the moment.

I still think the Saints are the 2nd best team in the NFC. But they are very far away from GB. I'm trying to think of who I could realistically see being better than NO and I'm not sold on DET or SF at all. So that leaves teams like TB, NYG, ATL, DAL, CHI and PHI and while I don't think any of these teams are straight up better than NO, I think they could win on any given sunday.

The Saints basically rely on Drew Brees to bail them out of games. That's not necessarily a bad thing tho bc he is a top 3 qb. The Saints would be a lot better if they had the down by a field goal, 2 minute drill mentality the entire game. The Saints are practically unstoppable when you unleash Drew Brees and let him spread the field out. He also seems to legit play better when in crunch time.

The problem with the Saints is obviously the defense. I don't think the Saints run game is particularly bad, they just arent a running team, and will never be one. They are never going to be a team to give the same rb 20 touches in a game. Thus its hard for rb's to get in a rhythm.

My 2 cents as a non-saints fan.
