Already considering next draft necessities

I'd been thinking we needed, probably in this order:
Right tackle
Pass rusher
Guard
Safety
Whatever after
However, I think the receiving core MAY be a more imminent issue. And of course, the potential Brees situation may be the biggest monkey-wrench of all.
If Brees is out for the season (or substantially so), it may be too early to try our hand with the new guy (Grayson). We probably expected to teach and groom him. I don't know how franchise-worthy he will be. So if we take this situation as a sign of Brees's impending exiting the league, do we stay with Grayson or go for a GOAT QB in the draft, which would obviously be pick number one. Further: whom would we pick from this coming QB crop?
Next, we'll have to give the new receivers the season to come into their own (or to show they won't) in order to decide how badly we need one. Cooks was a great pick, but with no other developed receiving threats (Colston and Watson are old), a whole D can gang up on the poor guy.
Otherwise, we OBVIOUSLY need a right tackle to complement Peat on the left (that is, when we decide he's ready to start). Assuming Lewis and Byrd are done for at least this and next season with injuries (eeeeeeeeh), we need pass rush. Then buff up the O-line even better with at least one guard, then bring in safety talent.
Of course, our picks are varied by whom we think we can nab in trades or UDFA. But this is all in the future.
So, barring QB issues (we'll know at least a little better even as soon as Sunday), what do we think are our most-pressing needs?
p.s.: I think we had great picks with Kikaha and Anthony, those guys' names have been called numerous times so far. Breaux isn't doing too badly, either. Not perfect, but he's had some defenses. Some time for development and we have a solid LB core with hopefully a respectable Lewis/Breaux combo.

Peat will replace Strief.

Its like the guys over on the rant, two games into the season and they are already figuring the final four possibilities

Nice 4th post. I wish we would have addressed right tackle this draft. It sure would be a luxury to have a 1st round draft pick sitting on the bench to plug in at right tackle.

We need a DT very badly. Jenkins keeps stinking it up and Kevin Williams is very old. Hopefully Davison develops into a good player.

We need a real threat at WR. It's time to spend again on WR help. I think a rookie, not a high priced vet, is the way to go. I'd say this should be our target for 2nd or 3rd round pick. 1st should be a pass rushing D lineman. We have a capable rusher from outside now, but Cam needs help on the line. Need depth at safety. Depth at LB needed. And a new guard to replace Evans

sorry but talking draft picks is crazy IMO. There is so much free agent movement you cannot accurately begin to assess positional needs.

All of this is stupid you don't even know who we are going to resign or sign via FA..
There is some real fricktardery going on around here lately

Depends on where that first round pick is located in the draft. IF it is a top 1-10 Defense.
11-15 OT/WR.
11-15 OT/WR.

Well. Right side of the line is where Brees got hurt from. But I guess anyone can have a bad game. Point being, more o-line help needed. Pass blocking was bad. Run blocking was occasional and too late in the game. Whether we need to replace a guard or tackle, I don't care. I may be misremembering who is at what position there, apologies. But someone needs to go. Line has been an issue in recent memory and it hasn't changed.

Yeah but that is specifically the position they drafted Peat to play. Didn't you see the preseason interviews with Strief saying Peat is basically here to take his job?
Also, rather than start a new thread (you can thank me later for that) this is probably a good place to drop Larry Holder's analysis of our protection issues. Ugly .gifs to watch if you're Strief...

Have you heard of armstead
Tackle is not a position of need right now. Have 2 young players and a vet who's been great except 1 game

Does OP even Armstead, bro?

Yeah just for fun... if... IF... we have a top 5 pick, I think they go best pass rusher on the board or best WR on the board. I'd love to see them trade back a few spots and get more picks, lord knows we have a ton of holes to fill, but that doesn't seem like CSP's style.

Ok guys, did some super basic research, got my info straight, my apologies. I have no idea why my impression was Peat was supposed to go left side, I feel like a complete idiot. Scratch that. And yea, I do understand a player has bad games. So pretty much what we have here is one bad game in pass protection, which really did look pretty decent in week one. Is that the consensus?
I just think I had flashbacks to last year is all. Bad pass protection, and Sunday we couldn't even run block until too late to do great damage. I really don't need to be one of those people who dumps the team or certain players after one bad outing. But I've witnessed us put up awful pass protection in years past, and that's kind of unacceptable for the pass-heavy team we're supposed to be geared toward.
In any case, I can't help but feel every crud team we've played in the past couple years ALWAYS get their stuff together RIGHT when they play us. Maybe we just make them look good.
