Guy is in amazing shape going on 36 and moves like a 26 year old. The talent and raw speed was always there coming out of Georgia, the younger Ben reminded me of a slower Vernon Davis. He was always a top Blocking tight end.
Comimg out of UGA he benched 225 31 times, was said he ran sub 40 but from my memory at the combine he was slower I believe 4.5 range. Now he did eventually run 4.41 at his pro day but I'm going off pure memory here so I may be off. He was one of the first real "Freak" tight end prospects of the 21st century, would probaly be a 1st round pick if he came out today. He was 1st round pick an '04 but really wasn't all that productive in college.
Basically guy is a beast he could have definitely had a HOF career. Great humble character, hard worker, excellent teammate and leader. Somehow the career just never materialized. He missed a lot of games in NE.
He should have never went to the browns and I don't see how Brady didn't maximize him in his prime.

He's always been a severally underrated offensive weapon. I was surprised we didn't do more with him even when Graham was here.

He's the best old TE in the league right now and glad to have him.
Now lets find a speedy TE gem hidden late in the draft

I like Ben Watson, but how do we arrive at this conclusion?

He's definitely still got it, but I'd really like to get a guy to complement him. Dude is 36 and unless he's the next Tony Gonzales, you never know when that drop off is coming.

Because he was fast as shite, 255 lbs running 4.4 out if college and has always been an excellent blocker. He had talent to be one of the greats, should have been the Graham to Gates(Tony better tho) being the Gronk back in the day.
He definitely has the talent, you may not remember his career. I always wondered why in hell the Pats didn't use him more. He has everything you look for at that position, a similar prospect with a decent college career is a top 25 pick in today's NFL no doubt.
Also he was a 1st round pick for a reason, at the time he was expected to be great.

He had some drop issues his last couple years in NE and got more money on the open market than they wanted to pay. Worked out

Watson is nothing special.
Drew Brees makes average pass catchers look like superstars.
