Everyone, it seems, has an opinion on Drew Brees’ national anthem stance. Even President Donald Trump has weighed in on Twitter.

The controversy surrounding the Saints quarterback has become the biggest story in the NFL.

So naturally, Washington running back Adrian Peterson was asked his opinion while helping families in need in Houston on Friday.

Peterson briefly played with Brees in New Orleans in 2017 before the Saints traded him to the Cardinals.

“When I first seen it, I didn’t really know what to think,” Peterson said, via Mark Berman of FOX 26. “I didn’t want to make any judgments without seeing exactly the question that was asked to him. So once I seen the question that was asked, it was like he diverted and went straight to what he wasn’t going to participate in and what he stood for. I know Drew Brees. He’s not a racist at all, and I have a lot of love for him, but I think this was a situation where he should have thought it out more. He should have thought things out more and tried to look at things in a different view. I know he made the comment about what he thinks about his grandfather and his great grandfather going to war and this, that and the other, but we had great grandparents that went to war as well, but when they came back, they still weren’t able to vote. We just didn’t have the same rights. When you look at it from that point of view, it’s like we understand where you’re coming from but we don’t understand where you’re coming from as well for those reasons.”

Brees twice has apologized publicly, and he apologized privately to his teammates in a virtual meeting Thursday.

That's a lot more than most of his current team mates/ "friends" did.

Exactly. They were not able to vote. THEY... the ancestors... but now you can.

Damn, I was actually hoping he’d say worse. Can’t stand that child-beating fornicator.

That is usually what you get when said person isn't all emotional.

when emotion runs high there isn't much room for logic.

AD knows what it’s like to get crucified by a social media mob without context or a full story.

The man was almost run out of the league for doing what parents 40 years ago did as a matter of course. What very well might be good parenting in terms of having your child learn certain behaviors.

So yeah it doesn’t shock me that he would be hesitant to social media pile on someone

Black men have had the right to vote since 1866, what war did his great grandpa fight in then come back and not be able to vote? Mexican War? War of 1812??

EXACTLY. The ignorance is astounding. Black men were given the right to vote 50 years before white women were allowed to vote.

You know who else could not vote when they returned from the war? Those, regardless of skin color, religious or political viewpoints that sacrificed their life so we could be citizens of this country.

Drew literally talks about standing for all peoples who fought in the war. Everyone ignores like it wasn’t a part of his views. Drew literally says he stands for all who fought from oppression for freedoms.

quote:

While the 15th Amendment barred voting rights discrimination on the basis of race, it left the door open for states to determine the specific qualifications for suffrage. Southern state legislatures used such qualifications—including literacy tests, poll taxes and other discriminatory practices—to disenfranchise a majority of black voters in the decades following Reconstruction.

Y'all really are so so so full of shite. This level of "ignorance" really is willful. By the way, you are a racist. Your fight against the reality of clearly accepted history is racist as frick.

Not in Mississippi, Alabama or Louisiana bro. They didn’t vote at all, and when they tried violence ensued. I assume your are Russian trolls and didn’t look that up

Before 1965 they used all kinds of bogus tactics to keep black people from voting.

John Lewis's brother passed the state dental exam but "failed" the literacy test.

The Alabama literacy test had 67 questions and the registrar had the discretion to decide how many you had to answer (or to waive it altogether). If they didn't want you to vote they'd ask all 67. Even one wrong answer was enough to disqualify you.

I did more dumb shite in my 20s than in my 30s. I am sure that Peterson’s age has something to do with it.

Jenkins needed to stfu and talk to Brees before going on social media like a little bitch. But that’s just who he is. Once he did that, he fired up the children in AK and CGM and that was it.
