Former Cal running back Daniel Lasco, whom the New Orleans Saints took in the seventh and final round of the NFL Draft, was among several players participating in the team's rookie minicamp last weekend.
Lasco, a Houston native, has never been to New Orleans before and is hoping to eventually explore the city, but the 6-foot, 209-pounder said now isn't the time to do so.
"Right now is still an audition," he said at rookie minicamp. "We're trying out for a job and everything is straight focused on football and that's where my mind is right now."
When asked what he wants Saints fans to know about him, Lasco answered: "I was born and raised in Houston -- not too far away. I'm going to give it my all. I'm a hard-working individual and I'm going to do what I need to do to help this organization out the best way I can."
At the NFL scouting combine, Lasco posted strong numbers with his broad (135 inches) and vertical (41.5 inches) jumps as the best among all running backs there. He ran a 4.46 in the 40.

Lasco finished his college career with 2,395 all-purpose yards in 41 games and 15 starts, including 1,872 rushing yards and 18 rushing touchdowns. He also caught 48 passes for 458 yards and two touchdowns.
