Guess we can post any rumors in this thread

quote:

“Two recent draft rumors that feel connected to me: 1) Saints want Jameson Williams 2) Jameson Williams is a top-10 pick. Starting to wonder if someone sees the Saints’ interest, sees their draft capital and planted some rumors angling for a trade.”

The most recent buzz, which, which you can choose to interpret any way you like, is from Albert Breer, in his final MMQB before the draft: “ Well, I’ve heard both Pickett and Corral have fans in the building, but most I’ve talked to believe they’ll use their picks on a receiver (if one of the top four is still there).” It really sounds like you can put your money one pick 16 or 19 being a receiver, unless the Saints decide to trade up. But even in a trade up scenario, they would likely be targeting a receiver or an offensive tackle.

Isn’t Williams coming off a serious injury and not available for a while.
Hard to see anyone picking him top 10, if that’s the case.

He's purportedly ahead of schedule, but it's possible it could be October or November before he is ready to play. If you are a team that expects to compete now do you really want to wait until October to play a rookie WR, with minimal practice time, for the first time? Seems like he could be a wash for the 2022 season in terms of the production you hope to get out of your 1st round pick.

Then, you have to worry about the injury. ACL tears in general have become FAR less of a concern than they used to be. But Williams is a guy whose best attributes are speed and suddenness. It is one thing to have a QB like Joe Burrow come back and be fine a year after such injury because he's not really relying on speed and suddenness to be great. A guy like Williams without those attributes is not a 1st round pick

Almost every PFF mock I've done had a run on WRs with picks 9-15. I could see a trade up at 13 with Houston to grab Williams or London. Gotta think Philly is in play for a WR at 15. Olave might be there at 16 but that's a risk. In no writer mock or rumor have I heard us trading back.

I think there’s going to be a run on WR’s and OT’s before our pick. Maybe a defender falls? Like Jordan Davis?

A run on receivers isn't a bad thing for us. means Davis or a OT will slide to us and there are still receivers available at 19 and 49. Best thing for us is we don't need a #1. Pickens, the kid from Cincinnati, Metchie, and a couple other guys can fill the need es p especially if we can grab a TE or RB in the later rounds. We need complimentary weapons, not centerpieces.

I do not want to trade our 2 1st round picks to move up to the top 10. I much rather pick at 16 & 19.

Too many? WR, LT, FS...that's 3 and we can literally address those with our first three picks. Even if we trade up, we can find a safety in the 2nd day who can start. We've been doing that for years.

The Saints M.O. for some weird as hell reason, is drafting dudes who’ve had major injuries, hence being undervalued. It’s a shitty strategy, but one we definitely seem to follow.

trading up for a receiver, in this particular draft, makes no sense... there are a ton of quality receivers, and there's not a doubt in my mind that even if we wait til 49 to go WR, we'd still come out of this draft with an instant starter/impact player...

The New Orleans Saints will be active on the opening night of the 2022 NFL Draft thanks to having two first-round picks. From speaking with sources, the Saints are looking for players who can start and contribute quickly because they feel they are capable of being a serious playoff contender this season. In the early rounds, New Orleans would want to address some needs at wide receiver, offensive tackle, linebacker, and safety.

Sources shared the Saints like Ohio State wide receivers Garrett Wilson and Chris Olave, although Wilson probably won't fall low enough. The organization likes other first-round wideouts, but it sounds like Arkansas' Treylon Burks is not a fit. New Orleans also is interested in first-round offensive tackles like Mississippi State's Charles Cross, Northern Iowa's Trevor Penning and Tulsa's Tyler Smith. The team also likes some second-round options, including Ohio State's Nick Petit-Frere and Central Michigan's Bernhard Raimann.

Defensively, the Saints are high on Notre Dame safety Kyle Hamilton. On Day 2, they feel Georgia's Lewis Cine and Penn State's Jaquan Brisker will be good pros. First-round linebackers New Orleans would consider include Utah's Devin Lloyd and Georgia's Quay Walker. Thus, the organization is keeping its options open, including trading up or down. By the sound of it, however, the Saints will be addressing a few of their key positions in the first and second rounds of the 2022 NFL Draft.

The biggest of Pickens’s Georgia teammates, mammoth defensive tackle Jordan Davis, has come up a lot in my conversations over the past couple days. I could see him going to Philly, Baltimore or New Orleans, which pick 14th, 15th and 16th in the middle of the first round.

To take Davis that high, you’d have to be comfortable you can get a little more consistent effort out of him than what showed on tape last year, when even in a heavy rotation with other linemen, his effort could be spotty at times.
