Assuming we keep Payton of course. I'm gonna assume we grab two top tier FAs and 3 second tier guys. I'd like us to grab one of the two highest graded guards in FA, as a top tier G would be cheaper than say a CB or T. Preferably someone at oldest 28. I know most people want a pure pass rusher but I'd prefer our 2nd top FA pick to be another Cam Jordan type DE that can stop the run and rush the passer.

As far as second tier guys I'm hoping we can get another LB, CB, and up and coming pass rusher. We have 6 draft picks. I'd like 5 of them to go on D with one in mid rounds being a T that could sit a year behind Strief. Would be nice to get a pass rushing LB and another Dlineman, anywhere on Dline. After pass rushing LB, Dlineman, and T with last 3 picks, grab a MLB, S, and CB. Possibly if a TE of geat value falls than I'd be cool with getting one.

I've heard Oline isn't a good stock this year in draft. What positions would y'all say are strong or weak for upcoming draft?

I'd also like McMahon and Vitt gone, I'm not as down on Bill Johnson as most are on here.

Any idea how much Ingram & Chandler J would cost? I'd love to get those 2.

If I was GM, this would be my ideal off-season.

Fired Joe Vitt, Bill Johnson, Greg McMahon, demote Dennis Allen and fire him if he won't take the demotion. As for defensive coordinator, go after Jim Schwartz and throw the bank at him.

Next for the roster.

1. Field offers for the following players; Jairus Byrd, Tim Hightower, Brandon Coleman, Stephone Anthony and load up on draft picks for this very defensive loaded draft.

2. In free agency, go after guys who won't demand a terrible contract but can contribute.

RB Eddie Lacy would be a fun bruiser to combine with Mark Ingram and you know it would excite them to compete against each other. After an injury and disappointing season, he'd come cheap I have to assume. I'd also like to add a speedster out of the backfield but no promising names in free agency so I'll look to the draft for this.

FB Kyle Juszczyk would actually be a priority FA for me because he's a true FB who can do it all, is still young and would be great in goal line situations. I also want to establish a running game going forward and take pressure off Brees.

G Ronald Leary, Saints fans have been wanting him and I'd finally bring him aboard to supplant him at RG filling the OL with Armstead, Peat, Unger, Leary and Strief. I'd also like to find an additional swing T who can play in case of injury.

Defense

DT Kawann Short - This would probably be my big name FA to go after because he and Rankins next to each other while also crippling Carolina's DL is a win/win. If not, then I go after LA Rams DT Michael Brockers.

DE Dion Jordan is a guy who will come dirt cheap looking to revive his career and I'd like to use him like Atlanta does Vic Beasley Jr, not the way Miami used him. I still to this day do not understand putting a 235 pound LB on the line with his hand in the dirt when he played 3-4 backer his whole career.

OLB Jelani Jenkins - This is a guy that I hope still isn't taking the league by storm and I can bring him in for a favorable deal but he definitely has potential.

CB A.J. Bouye who will probably get a big deal from someone but I'd love to try my hand at signing him, Breaux and Bouye would be fantastic with a rookie added to our depth.

Draft

1. Best defensive player available, I want LB or DL. If a name like Jonathan Allen falls to the 5-7 area, I look into trading up. I would also be willing to take a flyer on a guy like USC CB Adoree Jackson just to add some excitement on defense and let him play underneath. If most the names are gone and he's still there I also would take Jamal Adams and run the hybrid S look w/ Adams, Bell and Vaccaro.

2. Christian McAffery from Stanford. I get the speedster RB I want to create mismatches and a RB who can bail Brees out underneath. I also love the idea of pounding defense with Ingram and Lacy, then making them catch McAffery out the backfield or in the screen game.

In the rest of the draft, I want OL depth, another weapon whether it be WR or TE, a QB like Chad Kelly perhaps and then defense.

I like it, only thing I don't like is trading up. We only have 6 draft picks.

Well, I'd acquire more or at least hope to acquire more by unloading guys like Byrd, Coleman, Anthony. Probably wouldn't get anything for Hightower and he's a great locker room guy so keep him around.

I would like to acquire picks, but you probably won't get much for any of those guys.
I also would love to see McCaffery in this offense.....but I am not sure that we will be able to address all of the defensive needs in FA

Assuming Payton stays then we need to sign best pass rusher available. We will have the cash.

Then sign a decent RG.

Then draft nothing but defense and maybe an OL in the 5th-7th.

The main priority is upgrading the D. We Re-sign Fairley and get a JPP and we are set, especially with Kikaha coming off the bench. The only really other holes we have are Sterling Moore and some upgrades at LB

I want Fairly back also, I just hope we don't throw too much money at him. Maybe no more than 6 mill.

You might be able to get something for Anthony but nobody wants those other guys

I see what you mean. As far as one's listed I don't think a team is gonna take on Byrd's salary. Coleman and Anthony haven't done anything to get a team to trade for them. I'm not sure how many years Byrd has left on his contract but if he plays decent in 2017, I can see his contract more likely to attract a trade.

I'm just not sure about that. At best a 7th rounder

Assuming health, Moore is not a starter so I don't really think he would be considered a hole

I think 2012-14 off-seasons were so bad and going in the wrong direction. 2015 we stopped going in wrong direction and 2016 we turned boat around but yet to move. I like how our last couple off-seasons have gone. I think over last couple years we have fixed holes at WR, somewhat at G, C, and somewhat on Dline. We "upgraded" at LB but can do better. We still have holes at LB and even with everyone healthy another good CB would be nice. We have slowly fixed some areas though.

Another thing we should focus on is making Brees a Saint for the rest of his career.

If Payton leaves then I think Brees is less likely to finish his career here. Need to go ahead and lock him up.

Sign a couple players with lingering knee issues who get put on injured reserved during training camp.
