Really digging the Allen pickup. Judging by the pictures, lots of upper arm hair on his biceps, arguably even a rare abundance of it, so you know he's not low T.

Allen is short and has short arms, that's the knock against him. But Todd McClure played around 14 years in the league at 6'1. Like Allen, he was an UDFA. And fwiw, Allen is higher rated than McClure was coming out of college.

Expectation is G and not C though right? Edit: Not trying to argue or whatever.

Dominic Raiola was another one who had Allen's exact height and weight coming out of college: 6'1-295. Played for 14 years in the NFL. Not sure how long his arms were.

I hadn't heard that. I would think if he makes the team it would be as a backup interior lineman and he'd need to be able to play G & C. That might work against him making the final 53. Kelemete would probably have an advantage over him there.

I'm really beginning to love the idea of an interior OL consisting of G Avery Young, C Jack Allen and G Landon Turner with Armstead and Peat on the outside. Of course, that's if Unger isn't re-signed after the season.

If I told everyone that we ended up with the following draft picks before the draft:

1) Sheldon Rankins
2) Michael Thomas
3) Vonn Bell
4) David Onyemata
5) Landon Turner
6) Jack Allen
7) Avery Young
8) Daniel Lasco

Almost everyone would have been pretty damn happy with that draft.

I'm trying to really temper expectations as these were UDFA after all, and the vast majority don't even sniff an NFL roster.

Reading up on Allen I think he is a better center for the pro's.

This!!! Turner, Allen, Young will all make the final 53 and add much needed depth and competitiveness at the position

I would have taken it in a heartbeat. Lasco is kind of the overlooked guy, but every website I saw listed him as a 5th round draft choice who would have been even higher had he not had some injury problems his last year. The guy's a sleeper.

I think so too. His numbers were off the chart at the combine.
Good thing is he knows what he needs to do and thats excel on the ST unit and he's good with that.

I am still trying to reconcile the shitload of peeps that have whined relentlessly that no guard was drafted when they were much better values than who they actually did take. Those same folks refuse to acknowledge that they picked up three UDFA interior O linemen that had 5th Rd grades. Drafting a guy in the 5th-7th is good but getting a guy that grades out in that range for no draft pick is weak?
