I think it's clear Borrego doesn't overstep his boundaries as an Assistant Head Coach. The way he manages the game last night was night and day from what we usually see from Willie.

Hopefully seeing this success will get Willie to solicit more advice from Borrego. I also think the coaching is getting a little too much credit for increased energy and effort when you were down to just one hustle player in Dyson.

Herb and Naji both being back is huge. You have a critical mass of hustle that pushes the other guys, because we know Zion and BI aren't leading the defensive hustle charge on their own.

Since when is hustle and effort not factors attributed to a head coach? Hustle and effort aren’t skills. This is an issue dating back to last season, same guys. Willie has led many press conferences with “effort wasn’t there”

Green is afforded all the excuses Monty, Gentry, SVG weren’t afforded. Why? Honeymoon period is over, guy is almost 200 G in to his tenure. This thing needs to start rolling yesterday

I think it has more to do with coaching philosophy. Take the timeouts for example. Willie comes from Monty's tree where they tend to let their players play through adversity and only call a timeout when they can't overcome the momentum.

Borrego comes from Pop's tree who will more than likely call a timeout at the first sign of momentum lost.

ATOs were all very good last night too. His feel is real good.

Since I've been a Hornican fan and have seen that you don't coach guys to play hard or smart no matter how much you try, you get guys that already play hard or smart, and they can push the guys in the middle in the right direction.

Maybe they shouldn't be skills, but in this league they are. It's Herb and Jose's natural state because that's how they've stayed in the game this long. It is not BI or Zion's natural state because their success has come from leaning into their above average offensive tools.

I'm not making excuses for Willie. I was calling for an OC last year because it was clear Willie was deficient in this area. Willie has a reputation for connecting with the players. Let him do that and have assistants to cover some of the other aspects.

There are only a few truly difference making head coaches in the league and the Pels aren't likely getting any of them. Having the best coaching staff they can assemble that are all on the same page is the best way for the Pels to maximize the coaching.
