You guys got 19 guys on the roster and need to get down to 15.
Who are the 4 who get cut?

Last In First Out. We already cut one of the camp bodies, Vernon Macklin. That leaves Dionte Christmas, DJ Stephens and Kevin Jones. I wouldn't expect any of them to make the team.
Who is most expendable after that is an interesting question. Babbitt was almost dumped already this summer to make room for Asik, but Withey looks like he could have been passed up on the depth chart by Patrick Young. On this week's BSS podcast they had some interesting suppositioning that Withey is so buried on the bench it might be good for Demps to find another Pondexter/Vasquez style trade involving Withey for a young SF buried on someone else's bench.

That makes a lot of sense. Makes you wonder if they might look at keeping Christmas or Stephens if those guys could help out in the backcourt (if a trade doesn't materialize). With Evans playing SF, they are low on players in the backcourt and having 3 other guys listed at SF (Babbit, Miller and Salmons) might not serve any purpose..
So say they cut Macklin, Jones, Christmas and Babbit. That leaves..
Holiday/Rivers/Smith
Gordon/Fredette/Stephens
Evans/Salmons/Miller
Davis/Anderson/Young
Asik/Ajinca/Withey

Why would they keep Stephens? It sounds like he's all athleticism and zero basketball skill.

They could send him to the d-league.

Pretty sure they keep Babbit and cut Stephens. Pretty easy cuts.

I don't know. Sounds like he is a better project guy. Maybe he'd have some use as a defensive specialist. He is much younger than Christmas, so I figured maybe he can be coached up. I was just trying to even out the numbers..

You don't get rights to players in DLeague unless they're on your roster. Plus we don't own our own DLeague team, we have to share one with 12 other teams.

Well I know he has to be on the roster... I'm saying he could go to the d-league to develop some skills.

not sure how much of a future Withey really has in the league from what I've seen

The problem is, we don't have enough roster spots for a project. We are using 3 roster spots hoping one of Salmons/Babbit/Miller will be useful for 10-15 minutes a game at SF. Withey is probably the next most expendable after the loser between Babbit/Miller, but do you get rid of either for an undrafted project? I don't think so.

I would trade Withey for a young project SF in a heartbeat.

I feel you. One of the Rockets' roster spots is being taken up by Clint Capela... their first round draft pick who is tall, long, and athletic but is very raw. He's for sure going to spend a lot of time in the d-league.
And now this undrafted guy named Tarik Black that the Rockets brought in for camp is looking like a beast at the back-up center spot... so now there are more guys playing well than there are roster spots.
So somebody who is ready to play now is going to get cut so that a d-league project has a spot.

The problem is I can't find too many teams thin enough at center to be interested. MM mentioned the Bucks, and I guess they don't have much behind Sanders and Pachulia if you don't count Henderson. The Mavs just have Tyson Chandler, Bernard James and Greg Smith, so they could possibly use the depth. The Thunder don't have much behind Adams and Perkins, and they have a stable of projects to trade.

The Wolves might have an interest. They are loaded at SG/SF with Wiggins, Lavine, Young, Budinger, Martin, Brewer, Muhammed, Robinson III, etc.. Maybe we could shake lose Muhammed or GR3 for Withey? Or maybe go bigger and target Brewer or Budinger? That team is definitely in the market to make some moves..

I guess if Fesenko doesn't work out they would have room for Withey.

With the depth on this team i hold onto whitey. He could be a mid-season deal or not much of a beat skipped if injuries occur. Anderson can play 3 or 4 along with evans and salmons the primary. Your backcourt is set. I get rid of jones, stephens, and babbit.
