It was reported he would be on the bench for G1 in Portland. Then Gentry said Cousins wasn’t cleared to fly but his agent had an Instagram pic of them in a jet presumably heading to Coachella Cousins posted a vid on Instagram of him watching the game somewhere

Why isn’t this dude in Portland? Sounds like his coach and teammates want him there.

Thoughts comments concerns?

New Orleans Pelicans coach Alvin Gentry said Saturday afternoon (April 14) that injured forward DeMarcus Cousins would not attend his team's playoff-opening game that night in Portland, Oregon, because he still has not been cleared to fly as he rehabs from an Achilles tear.

But Cousins' manager, Andrew Rogers, posted a photo of him with Cousins aboard what appeared to be a private plane, possibly headed to Coachella, according to the wording in the post.

Cousins, whose season-ending Achilles injury occurred Jan. 26, can be seen with a walking boot on his left foot positioned on the chair in front of him.

Cousins has been in Los Angeles during his rehabilitation process. The flying distance from there to the airport nearest Coachella -- a music festival based in Indio, California -- is about an hour

Gentry said before the game Saturday "we would love for him to be here because he's been an integral part of this. I feel really bad for him because he's been great for us."

Pelicans guard Jrue Holiday said Friday he hoped Cousins could attend to see "what's in store for him" before Cousins reaches unrestricted free agency this summer. Multiple other players said they hoped Cousins would be on hand for the game.

Late in the Pelicans' 97-95 win, Cousins posted a 9-second Instagram video that said he was "Tuned in...." to the game on television.

The next game is Tuesday in Portland

That clip after the LAC game says it all for me. He is excited for these guys, but it’s killing him inside to not be on the court for this run. It’s gotta be really tough on him. All he’s wanted to do is play postseason basketball, and this was his year.

My potential only concern is him blaming the coaching staff for his injury due to overuse. People find reasons to cope with negative emotions.

Just an hour flight? Maybe they wanted to do a test flight with a reasonable return drive in case there was any impact? I’m sure it had nothing to do with Beyoncé headlining last night.

On the positive side when I heard he wasn’t at the he game after seeing him on a plane I thought that maybe something went wrong with his Achilles. Playing hooky is a preferable answer to reinjury.

Coachella seems like a good time

May as well go while he can since we’ll be playing into the middle of June for the next 4-5 years

I didn't really realize this until you said it, but it's pretty shoddy of him to miss the team's first playoff game....especially after seeing Embiid practically perform an opening act in the pre-game.

Yeah but Embid will be back in game 2 or 3. Cousins won’t be back till next year. Let the guy live.

Fan opinion is irrelevant

All that really matters is how the team and staff feel about this. I’d think him showing up on his own accord would give our guys a jolt. Don’t think there is really a negative impact of not showing but some may question his commitment

But hey they got this far without him

Plus that flight is a short hop. They probably never go above 15k feet.
