Interesting points

quote:

Somehow, the Pelicans were a bad defense last year (107.3 DRtg, 22nd in league). Their poor defense was the primary reason for not doing better in the Western Conference. Hiring Thibodeau would fix this problem immediately. In his five years coaching the Bulls, Thibodeau has never sported a defense outside the top 11 and has finished either 1st or 2nd in DRtg in three of those five years.

quote:

Holiday, in particular, presents a very exciting opportunity for Thibodeau. Thibs has been nicknamed the Point Guard Whisperer for the amazing production he’s gotten out of the position. He has a knack for working with ball-dominant guards like Holiday. Derrick Rose transformed into an MVP under Thibodeau and he’s also turned scrap heap guards like John Lucas III, C.J. Watson, Nate Robinson, DJ Augustin and Aaron Brooks into useful NBA players. Holiday could see massive leaps in his development under Thibodeau if he buys in.

quote:

Thibodeau is much more of a workaholic, hard-nosed coach. Players will catch him at 2 a.m. at the practice facility watching film on a daily basis. He is a basketball lifer, once dumping his fiancee because he claimed that “there’s no life in my room for a woman if I’m going to be a basketball coach.”

this writer is all over Thib's nuts, but he brings up great points.

I wonder if his practice ethic could/would aid the injury cases for the Pelicans?

I agree. Hoiberg is my #1. I want him to be the coach of the Pels, bad. I don't think it happens though.

I'm sure we will give a very hard look at Thibs, Kenny Atkinson, etc.

Thibs is our expensive backup play IMO. A lot of the same flaws as Monty so he may not fit Demps' vision like you've pointed out, but the offense was surprisingly productive outside of the Luol Deng #1 option years. I'd expect a top 10 offense paired with a top 3 defense under Thibs. That's a contender.

Hoiberg can coach and better suited to coach our young team....players and he can relate.
Thibs chose basketball over pussy, how smart can he be?

I just worry that Demps' ego will get in the way of the hiring and we just end up with a young "yes man" for Dell.

If it's gonna be that way, run Dell off. Do it Loomis, it's not about what's best for the GM

I'd bet he's looking for flexible more than agreeable. I'm sure part of who he's acquired has been in line with his big picture, but who was available for the assets he could spend certainly played a big role in it and one of Monty's problems was not being able to make the most of an unconventional roster. He doesn't know what the roster will look like in 2 years and will hopefully try to find a coach that can handle anything he throws at him, be it Twin Towers with Cousins or the current path of good players around a superstar.

I would be fine with Hoiberg, but Thibs has NBA skins on the wall. You guys are discounting the importance of that a bit...and by a bit I mean a shite ton.

Ya i love hoiberg but no way i take unproven college coach over thibs. I know freds awesome stud and all but thibs is instant turnaround and would be a slam dunk imho

I absolutely appreciate that. For those that value NBA HC experience, Thibs is our guy. And don't get me wrong: I would absolutely love to have Thibs.

However its not like Hoiberg doesn't have NBA experience. He played in the NBA for 10 years and was an assistant NBA coach and then in the Timberwolves front office for like 5 years. And then a HC in college.

Kind of reminds me of Kerr, a bit.
