Do you think the pelicans should keep or fire monty? If you think they should fire monty, who would you want to coach the pelicans?

Some notable head coaching canidates:
Lionel Hollins (former Memphis head coach)
Jerry Sloan
George Karl
Phil Jackson (definitely not happening)

I like what Hollins did in Memphis and still can't believe they let him go. I would be ok with Hollins.

Isn't Sloan retired?
And I'm not too sure about Karl at this point, he can win regular season games, but...

What about Avery Johnson?

Can you believe Cleveland was considering trading Josh Gordon? Crazy, right?

I think we should ban anyone who starts a thread on this topic anymore.

Phil is a lock. He's already ordered year's supply of bottled water.

Avery Johnson would be a good candidate. I can see Hollins improving defense though.

Yea, Hollins completely transformed Memphis basketball. Memphis roster and style of play under Hollins reminds me a bit of the Pels.

I completely forgot he was even out there though, nice fit imo.

You're probably right, but I would include him as a canidate just because of his success with the mavs.

All the Anti Monty folks, please name 15 proven coaches that are presently head coaches in the NBA that are better than Monty. Guess what? You can't.

I'll give you Erik Spoelstra, Greg Popovich, Rick Carlisle, Rick Adelman, Frank Vogel, Tom Thibadeau, Mark Jackson, Doc Rivers, and Scotty Brooks. That's nine, and there's a couple rookie coaches who have the looks of something special but you'd be a fool to bring a rookie coach into this argument because the sample size is too small.

You guys rather have Mike Brown? Mo Cheeks? Mike D'Antoni? Larry Drew? Mike Woodson? Jacque Vaughn? Randy Whitman? Dwayne Casey? Tyrone Corbin? That's just as many (nine) coaches that Monty is BETTER than (discounting rookie coaches for obvious reasons). Even Terry Stotts and Kevin McHale, who are coaching really good ball right now have career W/L % under .500.

Monty's a top 15 coach in this league, and plenty of GMs would be dying to have him. At this season's end there will only be 10 head coaches who have coached 1+ seasons that are over .500 win %. Maybe 12 if things go right for them. Monty's not bad off considering in his 4 years, out of 249 total games coached, he's been without a top 3 guy in 150 OF THOSE GAMES. 60% of the time he's been without either David West, Eric Gordon, Anthony Davis, or Ryan Anderson in 4 seasons. And you want to call him a bad coach? Get out of here with that nonsense.

While Karl and Hollins might be good coaches, i don't think either is a supreme upgrade over Monty. Stick with Monty people, his time is coming soon.

Terry stots is coaching a team with similar, albeit healthier, talent to ours to a 18-3 record. Hornacek has got Phoenix playing better than us with a worse roster. D'antoni had the lakers playing about as well as us with a worse roster. Philadelphias new coach and Brad Stevens are doing almost as well with severely depleted rosters that are designed to tank

Dude, Portland is loaded, I had Portland in my preseason top 5 with their talent and home court advantage. The only takeaway for Stotts is that hasn't f'd it up.

Stotts is a pretty good coach. He was stuck with the crappy Bucks of 2000s. He got them to the playoffs twice, with really just volume scorer Michael Redd and made TJ Ford and an few others into quality ball players.

Well.. with all due respect theducks, it is literally difficult to miss the playoffs in the Eastern conference these days, and Stotts managed to do so 3 times. His career record is 148-217, so why Portland hired him in the 1st place is beyond question in my opinion.
Stotts reminds me a lot of Mark Jackson though, being a young coach in the Pacific NW with tons of talent, its going to take a few years of success for me. Just to see how he handles adversity and whatnot.
