Shouldn’t Norman Powell be our guy?

We talk about adding shooting and I feel like Powell rarely comes up. But 6’4 with a 6’11 wingspan. He shot 41.4% from 3 on 6 attempts a game. 39.9% the year before and 40% the year before that.
He’s not a lock down defender, but he is a good defender. Especially compared to many of the offensive oriented players often brought up.
The Blazers are at the cap already with their current players on roster. A sizeable deal to Powell starts to put them close to the luxury tax. And Powell is playing a bit out of position there IMO at SF next to Dame and CJ.
If the Pels found a way to get him and match Lonzo, it’s hard to argue that a team replacing Bledsoe and Adam’s with Powell and Jonas wouldn’t be much much better. Just my two cents.

I really like Powell as our backup plan.

The other benefit of signing Powell is that it screws Portland over and makes it more likely that Lillard forces his way out.

I think that McConnell and Caruso would be other options to consider.

If those are the guys we go to as our top end pickup we are in trouble.

Oh, I agree. But going into this offseason focused on Lowry, and then losing him, may reduce our options available.
Bidding up Powell, though, will also force Portland to dump McCollum. I think McCollum has negative value at his current contract, so Portland would probably have to send us a pick to take him, but we could do that and take him into the Memphis trade.

Not sure how much he would cost, but I'd be down to get him if the price is right.
