Russ Smith was sent down to the D-League for this move

ETA: Mekel being a PG makes this more an indictment against Rivers than Fredette

This is good, I was worried that if he worked out we wouldn't be able to afford to keep him. I'm not sure if being a mid season pickup changes things any, but having him on the roster for 2 years gives you early bird rights meaning we'd have an MLE sized exception to use on him.

I really hope he gets minutes from the jump. the second unit desperately needs someone capable of actually running the offense.

Yeah I'd like to see what we have here. Seems to be some optimism on this guy.

I think, more than anything, he takes Austin's minutes.

True. But, how much so? Will he take all of Rivers minutes and Fredette still get his occasional/random minutes? Or will Monty just move Austin to the off-guard and pair him with Gal?

Austin might look better if he's playing 3 and D guard, we definitely don't want him running the offense. I will say that Salmons has looked less terrible lately and many people talking about Salmons say he does better at SG. So if you have Cunningham at SF and Salmons at SG, Austin would be sitting next to Jimmer waving a towel.

Not that I don't agree with you, I just think that's a funny GIF.

Is this just luck or is it just a case of an old vet taking awhile to get going?

sadly, Cunningham looked like our best bench player yesterday and he just signed like 7 hours before tipoff.

Another guard!!!!

Just what we need; can't play in league unless 80% of your roster is composed of guards.

Yea, I could also see a small ball lineup of Gal, Austin, salmons, Cunningham and AD in our future, but I'm not saying I'm gonna like it.

don't really get how you are upset with this... Russ just went to the D-League and have you seen our backup guards play this year??

Exactly, Russ has been less than stellar and is in the DLeague.

Austin has been hot garbage at the 1. Jimmer is even hotter garbage.
