Here's mine....

- AD looked like the best player in the league last night will have to play that way for the rest of the year for this team to be competitive

- Ajinca and Asik sucks. We need to move one of them to get AD some more help in the front court. The likely candidate is Ajinca b/c I think we'll be stuck with Asik for this season.

- We have absolutely no shooters who pose a threat to spread the floor. It looks like it will take some time for Buddy to develop into that threat.

- Bench is very weak. Absolutely no depth in the front court.

- Stevenson needs to start. If he's under control and can reign in the crazy, he'll be one of the best defensive players on the team.

- Fraizer will be a good serviceable backup all year

- Solomon Hill looked like hot garbage. Looks like this will be another bad signing.

- Overall, the entire roster is bad. Dell Demps needs to be fired before we play game 2 against Golden State on Friday. It's a damn disgrace how poorly this roster is constructed.

My overall grade for the opener: C-

Allow me to retort

no argument on Davis he's incredible and showed some improvement as a number one option specifically his vision and passing

asik is fine, he has a role and he is needed against some lineups. Ajinca is unplayable

they are better shooters than what they showed. Hit just a few of those open 3s and the floor will open up. Even with all the misses I thought their spacing was much better

the bench was outmanned. Denver had faried and chandler we had a rookie, ajinca, Jones and Galloway. When Frazier goes to second unit you'll see better bench play

lance fires up the team and the crowd but 20 plus minutes is not ideal

hills defense was as advertised but he is not a playmaker. He will find his role

pels are deeper smarter and the roster makes more sense. Buddy's development will be key

they get an incomplete from me

Yea.. And Ajinca couldn't even make a wide open mid range last night. Which he usually sinks.

Bench is very weak.

That happens when you have 3 players out.

Solomon Hill looked like hot garbage. Looks like this will be another bad signing.

He was very good defensively. Missed a few threes but we knew he wasn't a knockdown shooter to begin with.

True. It'll get better when jrue comes back and buddy gets in his niche. But until then it'll be bad

I liked what I saw from AD/Frazier/Moore/Lance*. A Holiday/Moore/Frazier 3 guard rotation seems like it could be pretty good and versatile.

Lance got an * because he still looks like a square peg for this team, the question is can he be broken of his bad habits. He's at a point in his career where he's more likely to break than Tyreke, but you're still asking a guy to play against his natural instinct which seems like something that's probably not going to work out.

The rebounding is a HUGE problem. I don't see a fix that doesn't involve a trade other than possibly Diallo.

If this continues to be the trend then we have zero hope! We got killed last year on the boards and this year isn't looking good again

I give me an F. I was watching the Cubs. I saw like 30 seconds of the game.

I'll reserve opinion until I actually see a game.

Ajinca blows more than Asik. I don't know why anyone would trade for him.

Cunningham and Alexis hitting the floor before TJ in the 2nd half last night was damn baffling.

Certainly did not look good. The fact he played so many minutes last night left me shaking my head when Buddy and Galloway got about 4 minutes of second half burn apiece, the Nuggets going small, and Lance playing nice D at SF.

I disagree. I wondered how Gentry would use this depth heading into the season. Is Hill going to automatically start over QPon at the 3 when he returns? Will TJ come in ahead of Ajinca eventually? How is he going to manage 96 minutes between Jrue/Evans/Moore/Frazier/Galloway/Hield? He's got to get creative with some pieces out and find a spark. He's got players capable of coming in and knocking down a few shots. Lance's D was just as good as Hill's on Gallo last night, who didn't exactly have an "off night" at 15 points on 11 shots. If Hill's defense is what made PTS/REBS/ASST/STL/BLK< TO/Fouls worth of 28 minutes, god help us.

I will say this. I loved the team's hustle and energy. That kept us in the game even with Davis going nuts. Stephenson looks motivated. Had just a couple of old "Stephenson" plays where he just pesters the living **** out of the opposing ballhandlers or throws down a 1 handed dunk over Faried that just got the crowd hyped.

Coaching - F. We lost to a mediocre team without Gary Harris with AD going just nuts on both ends of the floor. Gentry flat out fricked up finding the right pieces around him.

Players - A-. Like the hustle and energy. Davis was incredible. Not their fault they're put in positions to fail.

Overall - D-. How does Davis play that good of a game against a non-playoff team and we leave the arena with an L? Good god.

Buddy looked terrible. He was too jacked up.

I think Demps and Gentry both have enough on the line that they'll play whoever they think gives them the best chance to win. But people need to give Hill more time. It's like getting mad at Aminu for being Hornets Aminu. You sign a guy like Hill hoping he's at that ready to blossom stage so it works out like Aminu to the Blazers did. In hindsight we should have held on to Aminu, but the fans just didn't have the emotional stamina for that. Hill is not the player we need him to be, but the hope is that he will be. Otherwise you just wasted a lot of money on a defensive specialist skill set you could get for the minimum.

Hill was actually good defensively last night. The on/off reflects that.

He just sucked offensively and didn't rebound.

He needs to be at least a 9/4ish guy with good defense.

Great. If he's having an off night, he isn't "immune" to benching because you gave him too much money.

First half - C- (AD being the only bright spot)

Second half - B+

Was nice to see this team make adjustments and come out motivated in the second half. As we all know, the Pels MO is to suck it up bad in the third. Nice to see that wasn't the case last night.

I loved AD playing that well and it's awesome to watch a guy single handedly dominate an opponent, but we are in bad shape if AD scoring 25 a half is what keeps us in games.

As usual, it looks like this team COULD be competitive on a nightly basis (not talking playoffs or anything), but health will probably be the biggest factor in that. If Jrue plays like he did last year he will really open up the floor for us with his passing and chemistry with AD.

Our bench gets a lot better when 3 starters return from injury.

The on/off reflects he played almost all of his minutes with a guy who went 50/16/5/7/4.

Here are some camera system defensive stats- net shooting percentage comparing what a Nugget shot when a specific Pel guarded him vs. their usual shooting percentage. Since there's only one games worth of data here I believe it's more or less comparing Pels defenders to each other, so here's who had the best and worst impact:

Omer Asik -18.2
Lance Stephenson -10.6
E'Twaun Moore -6.6
Tim Frazier -5.1
Solomon Hill -1.4
Alexis Ajinca 0.8
Anthony Davis 3.9
Dante Cunningham 5.6
Terrence Jones 10.1
Langston Galloway 16.7
Buddy Hield 18.4

LINK

It's a small sample size but Galloway was the one that let Jameer Nelson go off, so it makes sense that he'd be one of the worst from last night.

AD looked incredible.

Liked what I saw with Stevenson.

Most importantly, it's only one game, so PT needs to take a deep breath.

You're probably right. I think if AD goes 40 and 11 last night, you might see different reactions. But he was an animal on both ends of the floor, and that understandably has people a little worked up that we lost a game with him playing out of his mind.

AD is to the pelicans as Brees is to the saints.

Both have to play unbelievable great for their teams to have a chance at winning and sometimes they loose anyway.

My assessments are close to yours
Hill is a mess. He put up a Gee like stat line. With him and Asik out there we getting some poor return on investment.
Frazier is lucky Manny is not a good PG. They had a few times where he brought Frazier in the post and it was ugly for us. I'm concerned about Frazier's D. Galloway looked good in reserve role. We could use Jrue and Tyreke back, but I don't think Stephenson will mess well with Tyreke on the floor.
Jones got handled in the post on D.
We looked like the worse team on Offense and Defense, but Davis will keep us in games. Would have won if we had guys that could knock down open jumpers.

C grade. Team lacked continuity and looked like a squad that is new to playing with each other. That can be fixed. D played hard, 25 turnovers I mean...wow. Rotations were sloppy at times but they gave bad shooters good shots which were missed so...it worked? Shot so poorly and were pwned on the boards; a win couldn't be expected with that production.

Frazier looked like a backup, he handled Jameer sure, but couldn't play with Mudiay-who had a terrible game himself. Frazier shouldve been abused on D but got lucky Mudiay was off. Tim made some crunch time plays though and earned it.

Moore looked capable, hit some treys but overall not a lot of oomph to his game.

Hill D'd up but needs to get better looks on O and crash the boards harder. Hill looked like the guy who was adjusting the most.

Davis...good God

Asik - same ole shite. Ajinca was worse though.

Lance/TJones - both looked ready for the moment. Amped up the squad and made plays in a close game to tighten things up. The ceilings low and variable with both guys, but these two owned the moment when they had to. They've got flaws sure but I liked the tenacity from both. If one of these reclamation projects pans out, its a steal.

Buddy- he and Murray played tiddlywinks with each other all night. Neither attacked or had plays run for them. I want to see at least two plays for him per game to see if he can get that shot going and get some confidence. Doesn't have Gentrys trust yet and prob a month plus from being fully unleashed.

Cunningham - needs to hit that motherfricking corner 3. Please. Just hit one.

Langston hustled, but his length couldn't shake Jameer despite a lot of hands in his face. Got worked in the pick and roll, couldnt recover in time a few instances and gave up easy buckets.
